Insertion of the epidural needle in itself is very painful. Plus, if done wrongly, it can actually result in paralysis of the lower limbs.
There are women who do not opt for this as they want a 'natural' childbirth. Then, when labour hits them, they beg for it to be done but by then, it's too late liao! So they have to go through the entire childbirth without it. -
