When I was attending ACSS in Barker Road back in the late-70s, there was a group of us in the middle block who experimented with the exact same three ingredients in an attempt to make something mildly explosive. Except that, for powdered carbon, we simply ground up ordinary charcoal.
Do you remember that small fire that broke out in the classroom on the second floor of the middle block, right next to the toilet, back in 1980?

The fire happened when one of the chaps in our group poured a small amount of that concoction into a metal pencil holder (you remember those, right?) in an attempt to make a solid-fuel rocket engine. He ignited the powder inside the metal desk with the hinged top; the jet of flame which shot out of the pencil holder set fire to the wooden desktop and produced quite a bit of smoke. Fortunately, we were able to snuff the flame out quickly and leave the classroom without drawing much attention to ourselves.

Oh, what a drive. And the wind!!! I was under-dressed; without a jacket!!! I thought I heard Winnie the Pooh said "it's going to be a blustering day, today, piglet". When I stepped into the building, the security guard at the front desk asked "did you have a shower?"
I must be addicted to the forum. Fancy logging in Night Owl, forgetting to call hubby to "pao pin an" (report safety). Tsk....tsk......terrible! Yeah, that's me!
