just came back again from work..
i work with IDIOTS!!
they didn't have the shift stats so i thought i messed up and went there... and their boss had the stats.. only, the idiots don't like their team boss and their team boss isn't the most likeable woman around...
they didn't ask her...
so i had to drive all the way to work, send it to them, yell at them, and then drive back
all because i'm responsible and they are IDIOTS! -
Okay.. time for me to sleep.

it's how it is with the other team...
they can sit side by side, and one will not lift a finger to help their colleague.. lines are drawn and strictly stuck to...
the other people who were transferred to my team were puzzled at first and then realised what kind of morons they were in the other team... and suddenly realised why my team works very well.. simply because we help out...
some who were temporarily transferred to the other teams found working with the other teams pretty nightmarish -

Yipers! Colleagues who sit by and watch fellow colleagues struggling with their work without lifting a hand to help?
It's happening in my new workplace too. They have powerful cliques and if you're not accepted into their cliques, they will refuse to help you. I saw it happening recently when one 'outcast' colleague had to struggle all by herself and literally BEG those outside her work area to help her.
I can't imagine stuff like that's happening in the healthcare profession!!
We're dealing with lives here and really shouldn't let petty personal disagreements get in the way of work!

It's really great that there's good teamwork in your team.
Must be because their leader also rolls up his sleeves and chips in to help, right? -
we've had too many team bosses...
we have team leaders who do not do stuff too.. but with a few of us, there are no "i am a senior officer and you are a junior officer" thing.. i will not ask them to do what i do not want to do.. and i will do stuff with them, for them...
and a couple of us will fight whoever it is, no matter how high the REMFs sit, if we are right and they are wrong.. and not shy to blast them if they show their arrogance...
oh well... i'm "anti-establishment" -

But it's for the good of all, though!
I believe a number of us are anti-establishment too, but we're closet anti-establishment peeps. We mostly don't have the gumption to do what you do! -
just ask... what can they do to me? fire me for doing the right thing??

Fortunately, the people in my functional area of the department are extremely cooperative and help each other out. Our department supervisor was formerly a systems analyst like us, so he knows what it's like to be 'down in the trenches' and will not hesitate to speak up for us. In the day-to-day running of the department, he's extremely laid-back and usually leaves us to our own devices, implicitly trusting us to get our assigned work done in a timely manner. And we seldom let him down.
I'd be curious to find out how corporate cultures and management styles differ between Singapore and US companies.

very dependent on the mentality of the boss...
my place, the big boss is a meddler and a stupid, vicious, vindictive and boorish one...
while my team boss lets us go on with the work and is around when we have to consult him because it is not within our authority to do... mostly, the decision has been made and we tell him about it
the big boss doesn't like that and takes it out on the junior officers because he's afraid of us (seriously) so we have to do out utmost to shield the working hacks from his petty viciousness...
oh well..

The corporate culture between US and local firms is as different as night and day!!
I've been employed in both types of firms and I definitely prefer the US way. My favourite employer is a US firm who believed in empowerment and employee welfare. Due to the large number of Americans and other expatriates in the regional HQ, our culture was almost like an authentic US 'import'! I loved working there!
And then, the HR management changed and they decided to implement 'local terms', which created massive unhappiness and dissent.
Part of the reason why I find it so hard to acclimatise to the culture in my current workplace is because it's really poles apart from my previous employers. It's totally local, which means, they practice the 1960's style of management with McGregor's Theory X and Theory Y being practiced.
My new ward is much better - the senior management aren't Empress Dowagers. There are still a few senior staff who choose to be nasty, but they're still the minority. -

Wow... the 4th postcard arrived so late?! It was a pleasure to send them, don't worry about it.
I wanted to do the same for littlestream, but she said her dad would do it for her.
I sent quite a few to SL too.
This is probably the last year I'm here to send them. I ought not be here this time next year!
