You know what... I think you're better off being single if getting married means going through all that and spending the rest of your life with an expensive flibbertigibbet!![]()

That translates to requiring a lot more invitation cards as well, and a whole lot of other inconveniences and costs!
On top of that, today, when I accompanied mom and the couple to go buy the 'Si Diam Gim' (Hokkien for 'Four Pieces of Gold'), the bride took AGES to make her choice!!! It was THREE AND A HALF HOURS of visiting SIX goldsmith shops before the Princess FINALLY made up her mind!!!
What the !!!! I could've chosen four pieces of jewellery from ANY ONE of the shops and I wouldn't have needed THAT long!Worse, she had apparently made a 'preview' visit the day before and claimed she already knew what she wanted!
And I thought it was just for the sake of custom, so you can choose any white gold piece you like, right? But nope... ALL The pieces she chose had to have diamonds in them!![]()

Makes me think... if I were a local guy, I'd rather remain single!![]()

Weddings needn't be THIS expensive and THIS crazy!!! Mom was quite pissed by the end of it all and when the couple weren't within earshot, she grumbled and complained about her indecisiveness, fussiness and all... Then she tried to console herself by saying, "Nevermind... your turn will come one day!" I glared at mom![]()

and told her, "Mom, NO WAY am I going to subject myself to this insanity! When it's my turn, it's going to be short, sweet, and simple, thank you!"
Scary! Scary!! It has become a horror movie!!!![]()

Agreed. My american cousin is getting married soon. (She's born in US) and her mum (my auntie) is complaining about how much money they're going to spend on the gown on the dinner on the everything cos they want to have a nice reception etc. AND they have a nice beautiful house they have a party at!Originally posted by Lingos:HAHA not necessarily.. White weddings don't have to cost much but they do cost minimum $80 a head if you have it at a reception centre. Another one of my girlfriend's engagement was for 400 people and the wedding they had more... a small weddings to white people not necessarily wogs are 150.
Yeah, it isn't just the Chinese.Originally posted by ShrodingersCat:Agreed. My american cousin is getting married soon. I think the guy is jewish so there are some customs they need to adhere to as well.
So.. Hmmm it isnt just traditional chinese wedding dinners.
Understandably, most women want the occasion to be special and want to look gorrrrrgeeeouus for the occasion. It is perfectly okay to feel this way.Originally posted by Rhonda:Some females turn into wedding monsters! It's like they have this funny hope since they were little girls that their dream wedding should be like this and like that and they turn into control freaks and money-spending monsters just to make their dreams a reality! They get all shrill-voiced and upset when they don't get their perfect gown, when things go awry and not according to their best schemed plans...
I can imagine how scary it must be for the groom to watch... cause I get freaked out watching them!!

It IS a special day, BUT there's no need to micromanage and become some Freaky Obsessive Wedding She-Monster!Originally posted by ShrodingersCat:Understandably, most women want the occasion to be special and want to look gorrrrrgeeeouus for the occasion. It is perfectly okay to feel this way.
But yeah, the micromanagement and obsessive attention to detail (i.e. but i WANT blue confetti!!!!) gets a bit freaky. Honestly, some grooms just feed it and make it worse (its ok honey, we'll go get the blue confetti now even though its past midnight but I know mustafa is open)
I am sure there's a golden mean there somewhere which allows the enlightened middle path between total gorgeousness, grandeur and gorgon-like self obsession, and the other extreme.
