In my humble opinion, I'll say work a bit first. Masters is not about academics. A student is a student, no matter. Your outlook will not be as wide. Sure, you can learn from reading up or researching but then, life experience is you have to experience in order to know, to believe, to feel and then finally, to document it.Originally posted by Fatum:well ..... when i finished my studies in melbourne, the student visa ended the week after...
and at that time, melbourne was celebrating bringing the unemployment rate down to 12% ! -

Yesterday afternoon, I was sitting in on an interview with a gent who was applying for a Functional Analyst position in our organization. He was an MBA grad from the U of MN with excellent grades. But he had no work experience, as he had gone on to do his post-grad work right after finishing his undergrad degree.
Fact is, with all the layoffs that took place earlier this decade when the economy tanked, there is currently no shortage of recently-laid-off qualified candidates to fill positions in corporate America which are just now starting to become available. From an HR persepective, it would make more sense to hire a candidate with work experience than one who is a fresh grad, especially if the former is willing to start at an entry-level salary. This is the reality of hiring practices in this country (and I do not see this to be any different in Canada).
If you intend to pursue your Master's, I would recommend you get at least a few years of working experience under your belt first. This way, you'd be more prepared for classes at the post-grad level, and you'd have work experience on your resumé after finishing your post grad studies.

Fatum, what MG said applied to the firms here too. It's just a prudent HR practice to hire someone who has practical work experience because when it comes to the crunch, it's not lofty theories that will help you do the job, but it's your job experience that will come in handy.
It's kinda like this - would you rather be treated by a Doctor who has had his housemanship experience and training already, or, by a fresh Med Sch grad with absolutely NO clinical experience? -
i dunno.. where i work, it seems that they love the scholars who are totally clueless as far as reality goes, and think that real work and competence is secondary

oh, i just got a call from my hubby's manager. she said hubby is unwell and has been dizzy for almost two hours. they called in a nurse and monitoring him now. he is quite stubborn and refused to go to emerg. manager told me not to worry, she will keep me posted.
my heart is racing and i am so scared. i've no extended family members here. i am so scared...my fingers are shaking. -
