I'm not wei da, just wanna switch to a more meaningful job, and I had hopes of joining relief missions. But the leave thing....really cannot overcome. I need to go away for 2 wks to 24 days...one can't properly backpack in a week, right?

So far, from what I've heard, the work isn't as stressful, employee rights are more prevalent, the working environment is more cordial, patients and relatives respect nursing as a profession.
Can you imagine that over here, when we do things that benefit the ill patients, the relatives will come and interfere and despite not knowing anything about nursing, they will insist that we do stupid things that will utlimately harm the patient and when we try to educate them, we get yelled at or complained about?
Several times I had to bring them into the patients' rooms, SHOW them, 'This is what happens if we were to do it your way - bleeding non-stop / membranes dry out / whatever... ' and THEN, they will reluctantly agree to let us do our work.
In the first place, stuff like this should NEVER occur!!! I should NEVER have to justify good nursing practice to them! I should NEVER have to be treated like a maid or worse, like a criminal trying to kill the patient!
I remember grandma used to say, 'Mai keh kiang! Buay hiao gor ai gong wei, kana ka ki jeen jia kiang! Mai chut xia, kia ji bi, hor lang cho kang!' (Translation : If you're not trained or an expert in the field, leave the experts to do it and don't hamper them by talking nonsense and acting like a smart-aleck!)
These people obviously never had a grandma / parents with good ol' common sense. -

It's opposite the Pacific Nursing Home, right? The stall is at a corner, at the place where they used to have this ambulance service's office? It has a nice board above the stall with green background showing the nasi padang?
Also have chi char in the same kopitiam, right? The kopitiam faces a road where there's bus service no... 147 and 196, right? -

Rhonda..it seems the whole hospital system needs some kind of overhaul if what you mentioned is commonplace at most hospitals here. The major issues seem to be shortage of nurses, nursing admin (attitude issues of leaders/managers?), lack of clear career path (& perhaps training path?), and the education of public to treat nursing with more respect, and of course, salary issue. Once they get the salary adjusted upwards, it will help relieve the shortage, and perhaps the other issues can then be worked out concurrently. But I guess no one cares much about nurses.
Meanwhile, the locally trained nurses continue to leave the local system. -

But in a recent session a few of us had with the nursing admin management, they just don't SEE, and ask Elindra if she was horrified by their thwarted answers to the questions I posed.
