I remember as a kid, and eating pau and siew mai at this pau shop at Kek Sng Kio (can't remember the St name, near Rochor) - they will dish out 4 siew mais on a metal plate, and u can choose to finish the whole lot or not. If u eat less than 4, they will take back the remainder and serve them later to other customers. Their big pau was fabulous...without the dark soya sauce type. Dunno where to find this type liao.
