I had an ex-colleague (Malay man) who taught the cat to poo into the squat toilet. Sometime back, there was this news snippet about a contraption to train cats to poo into the pedestal toilet. Now, if only we can train them to pull the lever and flush after doing their biz.
Next, get hold of tissues and gently 'stroke' the kitten's anal region.
Then, discard the tissues near the drainpipe. The kitten will be able to smell the tissues, and will associate the drain area with its toileting area.
Thing is, the cat's natural desire to scratch the 'litter' after it's done will not disappear and very often, you'll catch your kitten / cat 'pawing' the floor tiles or wall tiles, looking as if they're 'scrubbing' it clean for you! That's their 'scratching the imaginary litter' habit! -

My house isn't spick-and-span and all that, but at work, when I'm free sometimes, I like to grab a container of mediwipes wet wipes and wipe things down in the ICU patients' rooms!
Wipe the table surface, wipe the sink tap handles, wipe the drawer handles, wipe the bed rails, wipe the monitor screen, ... wipe wipe wipe!
