Owning your first home!

This evening, my parents and I drove down to my brother and his wife's new home.
It was tastefully renovated! I liked the decor and they had a wonderful view of the koi pond from their master bedroom and living room bay window!
I loved the bookshelves in their study area too! I want bookshelves just like that!
That got me thinking... it must be a wonderful feeling when you get your first home! Be it a bachelor / bachelorette pad or a newly-married couples first home, I'm sure there's an unforgettable feeling when you first get the keys to your home!
I know quite a few of you here are newlyweds or own your own home. Tell us how it felt and other interesting stuff like how you decided on the decor theme, etc.

Oh, and one thing mom and I observed and discussed ...
Couples these days expect a larger living space than before. Meaning, it's common for them to combine two bedrooms to form one large master bedroom. Even the singles relish a huge bedroom cum study / walk-in-wardrobe kinda concept.
It used to be a couple purchase a three-bedroom apt and one would be the bedroom, two would be the kids' rooms.
Now, it's more like two bedrooms would be combined as one huge master bedroom or one room would be a bedroom, another would be his study, the remaining one would be her study!
I guess there are higher expectations these days! -
i want to continue to live in my house. but muz renovate, everything minimalist.

i wud like mine to be a 5 room... or maybe an executive appartment or even a terrace
i want my own room, a walkin closet for mi and wife a bathroom and a balcony of my own room. The liveing area... shud have a TV watching area. dining area, talk talk area and play area for maybe kids? -

i demand space to put a keyboard...& a shelf to put cds...lots of them. as for the walk-in cupboard thing...my fren told me not to do such a thing coz the dust tat gathers inside is terrible. i think it takes up a fair amt of space as well.

If the clothes start to gather dust in there, then maybe, it's time to give them away cause they're not worn often enough! -

But, if you're berthed somewhere pretty safe with your loved one, when it gets stormy, just lock yourself inside and keep each other warm and cozy! -

a yatch is a depreciating asset, you'll never get back the same amout of money selling it as you bought it .... but a house is different, property prices can and do appreciate .... so perhaps a house would be a better choice ? just in case one falters in life, there's still something to fall back on eh ? ... -

errr, tell that to those who bought their property during 1997, they r living on negative assets -
make sure you clean the shelves etc once in a while, dust collects.
all this to be done yourself since its your home. -
