Haiz...same old crap I see. Employers, including our fucking government, just do not seem to be able to get it throught their thick skulls that you need people to do the work and you cannot increase workload while cutting manpower at the same time. Yet this is exactly what is happening! Everywhere!

Incidentally, when they recently changed their mode of payment, ie. union members now have to apply for GIRO deductions instead of having the union fees deducted from their salary once a year, quite a number of my colleagues decided to end their membership. Their reason - the Union does nothing for us except give us free gifts once a year!

But, from what my agent told me, she's seeing more and more locals apply to go overseas to work as nurses. Previously, there were more foreign nurses working here who applied. These days, she says even some Nursing Officers (Sisters) have approached her for overseas placement!
The higher-up's are quite smug about the fact that every year, the nursing schools here are able to recruit a few hundred nurses. But they have forgotten this important and glaring fact - if they were able to retain all the trained nurses, why would they need hundreds of new nurses every year?!

yes it seems that some unions are run by people that are willing to compromise on issues or easily intimdated by Govt or Employers. Some seem more concern about their own jobs than the peopl they represent. -

Anyways, nurses here are mostly passive, long-suffering people. They're contented to be paid a monthly salary and they don't question much.

"How To Be Idle" by Tom Hodgkinson.
Its a humourous look at the evolution of work culture over the ages, and looks at how things used to be like.
"Willing Slaves" by Madeline Bunting looks at the current work culture in the UK and how it is destroying lives and relationships. Very applicable to Singapore too.
Can pass them to you if you're looking for reading material.

It took me totally by surprise and very suddenly too! I experienced a mild discomfort at the back of my throat during the afternoon but was generally ok. Came back from dinner with my parents and as the night wore on, started to feel worse and worse until I ran a fever! Everything happened so fast!
