Well, do you have any interest in cooking at all? You must bear in mind that the training to be a chef is very tough - long hours in a hot, stuffy kitchen; the possibility of getting burnt / scalded is there; now and then, you might get cut by your sharp instruments; when you graduate, you'd have to work during public holidays and weekends and take long shifts and your colleagues will give you the mediocre and monotonous tasks first... It's going to be a long, hard climb.
You must have a passion for food and cooking and all that to stand out as a good chef.
There are books you might want to borrow or purchase to read to let you know more about the profession. One of them I'd recommend is :
- The Making of a Chef, Michael Ruhlman
It might not be a local context as Chef Ruhlman graduated from the CIA (Culinary Inst of America), but it can give you a vague idea of what it's like to be a chef and introduce you to culinary terminologies that you'd be exposed to.

i dun mind the long hours and that, what i'm most scared about is that i dun have the skills and i'll be a slow learner -

As long as there is passion, coupled with hardwork even the slowest learner will do MUCH better than an intelligent person who has no heart in what he/she is doing.
Plus, cooking has nothing to do with intelligence. It is more like a feel on how the food will taste like when you combine the ingredients -
