  jetta, I really don't know where you get the energy to move every three years. It's like you have to start all over again for everything! Even your kids have to adjust to it - new school, new friends, etc. Do they ever act up and all that when it's time to move?

  I live so close to the border (but not as close as San Ysidro which is the closest town to the border) that they've nicknamed my town, Chula Juana My neighbour across the street works with immigration and border patrol. He's told us many times, don't go into Mexico and I don't intend to. (Though I do think about the shopping treasures there )
  
  When my kids were young, moving was no problem where they're emotional state was concerned. It started becoming a problem when we left Hawaii for Japan (for our 2nd stay there). My son especially feels the pain. Even now, almost 4 months into our stay here, he still asks me, Mom why did we have to leave Japan? I miss my school and my friends. That's why even though we can move back to Seattle to retire after this, we're wondering if we should just stay here to spare him any more trauma.

Anyway, since the thief knew her address, she felt that maybe the thief came by, saw no car in my drive way (mine was parked in the garage), decided to target my house instead.

  I agree with Fatum; you should seriously consider getting and learning to use a firearm for home defence. Even though California is seriously firearms-unfriendly and requires its residents to jump through lots of hoops to acquire guns, it can still be done.
  
  It might be worth paying the local gunstore a visit for recommendations on firearms suitable for home defence.

  Much as I like living in this area, I cannot stand renting. We've just put in an offer on a home up north. While I know it's still California, it's an hour away from the border. Guns just scare me.
