Y'know, I really think that it's not THAT important anymore. I guess I do get affected by the weight thing because well, technically, as a health care professional, I ought to have a healthy BMI myself and also, I'm quite vain and wanna be able to wear whatever I want! And yeah, it's always nice to receive compliments and we're all suckers for that!
But other than that, these days, I find myself being less and less apologetic over my looks liao.
I guess, in a big way, it's cause I'm too lazy to do what it takes to keep the fat off - go on a diet and exercise regularly and intensely! And so, since I know what it takes to be trim and am not willing to pay the price to achieve that, there's nothing to sulk over liao!

My dad, two cousins and myself, went downstairs to 'receive' the bride and my little cousin was supposed to open the door for them and get ang pows.
So, that was what happened. And then, we got shoo'd to go up to the apartment before the bride because everyone who's already in the house has to be huddled into the kitchen to face the window, away from the bride, as she makes her entrance into the apartment.
I was kinda aghast that we had to do that and it wasn't easy cause grandma was on a wheelchair and the other grandma is old and feeble. So after much struggling, we were all standing there, facing the window and wall.
There was much mumbling and grumbling from yours truly and a few cousins and relatives for the inconvenience and ridiculous superstition.
Then another relative explained that it's to prevent antagonising horoscopes from 'clashing' with the bride.
Got such things, ah?
I think I got a bit pissed seeing the two grandma's being herded with much difficulty into the kitchen and all the other relatives looking kinda stunned to have to do that, so I kinda exclaimed loudly, "So superstitious!!" and shook my head in front of my bro's and sis-in-law's friends. -

Dowry is stupid.
Wedding dinners are expensive affairs and who the hell said that you will definitely recuperate and make money is a downright blatant liar or has extremely rich and generous relatives because that is NOT the case!
And when it comes down to the crunch, weddings need not be expensive, cut-throat, affairs with so much fuss and frills. Have it short, sweet, simple, relatively stress-free.
I think I almost crossed my parents at the wedding dinner cause mom was proudly proclaiming that so many guests 'shang2 lian3' and turned up and my brother was so lucky, yada-yada and I retorted, "Well, I think up to 2/3's of the guests were you and dad's and the bride's parents' guests, and definitely people my brother and his wife didn't know at all!" and mom shot a dirty look that could've made me wilt and die! -
Sometimes, when I'm in a good mood, I mutter inside, "Gee, you'd better pray you don't get afflicted by the same chronic problems I have to suffer!" but when I'm in an extremely evil and catty mood, the claws come out and I'll retort, "Ah! And let's see you deal with the same issues I've had to deal with all these years! Back then, there was a time when the 'beauty' standard, as dictated by the US, was something like 36-38 (boobs), 26-32 (waist) and when I heard it, and saw the photos of the bodies of the 'perfect beauties' they showed on TV, I sooooo darn wished I was born in that era!!! -

And some family conflict arose due to that. The aftermath and fallout and the consequences will probably sour relations between the affected parties for a long long time to come!
I tried to play mediator and placate the parties but in the end, kena blamed!!
