Breastfeeding is definitely cheaper!Originally posted by Fatum:I was musing on this the other day .....
I wonder if anyone has done any economic studies on this before:
would it be more economical to feed the mother, and have the mother breast-feed the child ....
or would it be cheaper to buy formula for the child directly ? ...![]()

u serious?
well if you are it is far more convenient for bre.ast feeding. You can whip it out anywhere and anytime the child is hungry
without needing to find hot water and heating milk in it, testing to see if too hot... wife nagging u if the milk has gone bad blah blah. Also no restaurant in Sydney will heat your milk in the microwave... public liability big issue.
no doubt it is cheaper, as mothers dont usually eat more... lol mine ate less after birth lolOriginally posted by Rhonda:Breastfeeding is definitely cheaper!![]()
The formulas that are specially for infants who are really young are pretty expensive! And don't forget, babies drink a lot a lot of milk when they're newborns or very young.

They are pushing for breastfeeding here as wellOriginally posted by Kan_i:no doubt it is cheaper, as mothers dont usually eat more... lol mine ate less after birth lol
I dont know if SG has an advocacy for bre.ast feeding... but there is a huge back to bre.ast feeding as the mothers milk is perfectly formulated for their children, so the study would suggest. Infact nurses in the maternity ward frown upon you if you are male and suggest otherwise.
My sister infact is in the "breast feeding association" which helps new mums to learn the techniques of bre.ast feeding.
LOL i can remember attending such classes prior to our baby.
Over here, we hav been advocating breastfeeding strongly for years liao!Originally posted by Kan_i:no doubt it is cheaper, as mothers dont usually eat more... lol mine ate less after birth lol

LOL i remember 1 time i said to the nurse whom had visited us, that i would like to switch to formula and give up the breast feeding. I think she hated me lol and thought i was a "typical" controlling husband with passive wife LOL i can tell you she aint passive she only looks it lolOriginally posted by elindra:They are pushing for breastfeeding here as well

Before I became a nurse, I had an ex-colleague who had a novel way of making her baby sleeps through the night. It's some kinda conditioning exercise.Originally posted by Kan_i:LOL i remember 1 time i said to the nurse whom had visited us, that i would like to switch to formula and give up the breast feeding. It was all too stressful when the milk doesnt flow and the child screams, also what only new mums understand is that breast feeding is an on demand thing. Your child will feed when they want to... so mums have to wake up at around 2-3hr intervals. With formula its around 4 hours and dads can help with the feeding.
Good luck to new parents lol

Hahahah ok Rhonda I think would possibly the only 1 to undestand this... but we have tried all the techniques before we gave up on the bre.ast feeding.Originally posted by Rhonda:Before I became a nurse, I had an ex-colleague who had a novel way of making her baby sleeps through the night. I guess if the milk doesn't flow freely, then bo bian, have to use formula milk.
Anyways, at work, I had colleagues who were breastfeeding and they'll use their breaks to express their milk and keep it in the fridge so they can bring it home and stock up for baby.![]()
My cousin eat a lot of brocolli too, it aids in the production of milk..really?Originally posted by choco B:Hmm
Can pump, store and dispense as required right?
(... that came out weird)
Orh... then really bo bian. Not all mammary glands produce at the same rates!Originally posted by Kan_i:Hahahah ok Rhonda I think would possibly the only 1 to undestand this... but we have tried all the techniques before we gave up on the bre.ast feeding.![]()

me thinks some of that is a myth... granted that eating healthy will produce better milk... as they say your child eats with you. Which is why women are told not to drink alcohol.Originally posted by laurence82:My cousin eat a lot of brocolli too, it aids in the production of milk..really?

Erm... it's the mammary glands that produces milk, not the lipids that go into making breasts 'big'.Originally posted by Kan_i:me thinks some of that is a myth... granted that eating healthy will produce better milk... as they say your child eats with you. My sister had "over" supply and she didnt eat any brocolli.
Now the myth i want to know is the "does bigger breast produce more milk" lol
remember its supposedly the sub-conscious attribut a guy looks for. We always claim we are looking out for out childrena d not ourselves lol![]()
ahh, i think brocolli has more nutritional value, especially when she adds it to the char kway teow she was eatingOriginally posted by Kan_i:me thinks some of that is a myth... granted that eating healthy will produce better milk... as they say your child eats with you. I know already... and it involves the husband's 'help', right? (Not that most husbands would mind, I think!Originally posted by Kan_i:hahahah ok so you dont know what i am talking about... go ask a nurse who knows a lot on this about 1 funny technique to help stimulate milk production lol
lets start a thread in that medical advice section and see if we get an answer lolOriginally posted by Rhonda:Erm... it's the mammary glands that produces milk, not the lipids that go into making breasts 'big'.
Granted though, maybe, just maybe, ok... bigger boobies have kinda like more 'space' for the mammary glands to grow engorged as they're producing milk?![]()
I mean, if you compare an 'A' size boobie to a 'C' size boobie, of course the mammary glands in the 'C' size boobie would have more 'space' to store milk for baby. I mean, logically speaking, right?
I'm no expert in this matter, btw... just find this pretty interesting!![]()
Wish I were still at work cause I can then hop into the relevant wards and ask the nurses there!
Haiz... scratching actions so feeble leh!Originally posted by elindra:*Makes scratching actions at Kan_i*
