we have to slide forward that thing that's hooked on. see the guy there clenching his fist? see that cylinder thing in front of him? that's the air intake which we have to put our face into, to see the blades stop turning.

Awesome shots. Mine are miserable. I get sea sick. So for the first couple of hours on the day of the Dependents' Day cruise, I sat rooted to one spot. Feeling so sick but yet I wanted to take some pictures for my scrapbook. For the remaining 5 hours I spent in the ship's library, trying not to be sick.Originally posted by kopiosatu:

Especially true in the ah-mee. And these jokers are rotated from post to post so fast that they are never around to answer for the long-term f u c k ups they initiate and usually some poor bastards will have to take the blame for it. Gotta love this ah-mee of paper generals and 28 yr old half colonels!Originally posted by the Bear:it's self-perpetuating...
the scholars who become the High-Ones in gabramen and ah-mee will look for the same type of people to promote and they in turn, become the next generations of High-Ones in gabramen and ah-mee...
mostly, with a very few exceptions, the scholars are all at sea... no idea what the hell is going on.. and the working hacks like me, pick up the pieces of their "projects" and "initiatives" which are usually recommended by con-men in the guise of consultants...
that's the ugly truth of singapore

i get sick when they give me sea sickness pills.
i actually love the rocking motion.
i remember i got motion sickness when i was young because i would read while on the bus. i still feel that way when i read on something that's moving, but at least now i know how to put the material down.Originally posted by jetta:*turning green at the memory*
Takes alot to get hubby sick too. He says it's funny to see the new guys on their first cruise, all in line on the top deck puking their guts out. There was an officer who ended up being put on shore duty because her motion sickness was so bad.
How long does one stay at one command/division? In the US navy, officers do an 18 month tour, sometimes less. Enlisted do 3 years each time.Originally posted by av98m:Especially true in the ah-mee. Yah, I can't read in a moving anything except for airplanes but only for a hour or so.Originally posted by kopiosatu:i remember i got motion sickness when i was young because i would read while on the bus. i still feel that way when i read on something that's moving, but at least now i know how to put the material down.
otherwise i'm not affected at all with all the shaking.
I know most of those scholar officer types usually did about 3 years or sometimes even less. So they are never anywhere long enough to take the blame for anything. Its extra depressing for the non-scholar senior officers when they see baby-faced young punks wearing major or half colonel insignia. So for quite a while the turnover rate amongst officers was very high because they did not perceive a level playing field. Not sure about the situation now.Originally posted by jetta:How long does one stay at one command/division? In the US navy, officers do an 18 month tour, sometimes less.
