I was on duty one time during NS, was travelling from Bangkok to one of our training bases there with a Thai army driver, a motor cycle crashed into the back of our vehicle .... the driver was hurt, badly .... both of us got out .... and almost immediately people were stopping by to help ... tuk tuk drivers, other motorcyclists .... the chap was quickly loaded onto a tuk tuk and sped to hospital ... and another kind soul in a pickup loaded the totalled bike onto the back and followed ......
people there cared at least .... I get pissed everytime I see an accident on Singapore's roads and everyone slows down to get a glimpse of the carplate number but not do anything ...

Basically, it was a video of this guy who backed his car and hit an old lady, he stopped his car for a while, then drove his car forward, then drove back again! 
When he got out of his car to check on the old lady, a passerby stopped to look then continued on. Another rode by on his bike, looked, and rode on.
The old lady was brought to the hospital, but died because of her serious injuries. -

I remember a friend in this line telling me that people often complain of the response time to accidents in Singapore, but it's often because they didn't receive the heads up till much later ... is it true Rhonda ? .... -

Some years back there was this fatal accident in front of my old place. My mum saw the accident and called immediately. Apparently 4 others called before she did -

First time, back wheels of car rolled over 64-year old lady taking a stroll. Car paused, then driver backed car again, front wheels rolled onto the lady. Then driver moved forward, back wheels rolled onto old lady, car stopped. Driver backed car AGAIN, back wheels crushed lady again! Then, driver drover forward again, back wheels went over lady one more time!

A friend of mine took on a temporary job as a delivery driver once, and he had to deliver kuehs all over the island in the wee hours of the morning.
He told me that once, driving along the expressway, he saw that another truck had slammed into a lamp post. He stopped his vehicle, went over to check on the driver but driver was kinda stuck behind the wheel and he was in bad shape with a few ribs poking out and bleeding profusely. He immediately called for an ambulance but waited at the scene in case he could be of any help somehow. He said it took the ambulance about 15 -20 minutes to reach the scene and in the meantime, they kept asking for directions so there were unnecessary delays there. My friend was quite pissed at the seemingly slow response time cause he said it was in the dead of the night, no traffic was around to cause delays.
I can't really comment, cause I wasn't there, but he was still cussing away at their 'inefficiency' when he related the incident to me.
That was about seven years ago though... hopefully, the service has improved since then. -

I'd call the emergency services(police/ambulance) but thats all. Nothing else. Oh! Eh, sorry, Fatum! YOu were asking about the delay witnesses of accidents took in calling for an ambulance, right? I gave you a 'wrong' answer, sorry!
I don't think it's that. When I witnessed accidents, I'd whip out my phone and call immediately, but the operator would always tell me that others have called ahead of me already. Just like what elindra's mom experienced when she reported the accident too.
The most dramatic accident I've witnessed was an explosion over at this block of rental one-room apartments in Marsiling!
It was a warm afternoon and I was taking a nap when I heard a loud "BOOM!" and felt the floor shake a little! I woke up in shock, thinking maybe one of my cupboards had crashed to the floor or something. But nothing was amiss at home but whoa... I peeked out the kitchen window and there was lots of grey smoke coming out of a corner of the block opposite and people scattered around talking loudly. Residents of that block ended up being evacuated when the police arrived to put up a cordone.
Apparently, it was an accident with a gas stove. The entire flat was blown apart! Came out in the news and papers too.
Scared the hell out of me and my neighbours... we thought it was a bomb! -

If a Good Samaritan stops by the roadside to assist someone in need, but that someone somehow ends up getting new injuries as a result, or the condition doesn't improve, would the Good Samaritan therefore be liable?
See, in CPR, it's quite common to fracture the person's rib(s). I've done it twice, but it's pretty inevitable.
Should the fear of being sued for fracturing the person's ribs stop me from performing CPR in the first place?
And, why would the family even want to sue a Good Samaritan?
Ethical issues, hard to reach a conclusion...
Wondering if this topic ought to be a new thread. What do you guys think?

I think it is not so bad in Singapore, though alot of Singaporeans are becoming more opportunistic and is starting to sue like the Americans.
