even scarier is that management has communicated to us at my workplace that our job scopes will be widened in the forseeable future because, according to them, we're still not doing enough.
also, pressure at work is a very different kind of pressure compared to school
but I agree that the current workload for schoolkids is driving some of them nuts. the more obvious results of that are increased cases of mental illness and suicides. (these are of course not always reported in the local media) -
at least there must be some ways to lighten students' workload and pressure.
not making cca compulsory is one of them.
making sch holidays really holidays and not asking students to come back on those holidays is another way. -

"Holiday assignments" - such a glamourised term. Eight subjects x Eight assignments, which more often than not involve 'projects' which require research.
Defeats the purpose of having a break entirely. -

For all the homework, ting xie that I routinely failed, holiday assignments that were always done at the very last minute, multiple projects & deadlines & ... ahem enlightening project group dynamics & politics , heavy lifting and blood loss from paper cuts during research in library, intense photocopy machine radiation, months long thesis crafting that feels almost like you're writing a book...
I'd still choose ANY stage of school life over working life
In school, you screw up, you get comm service, or at worst detained... you're down but not out. You're still taken care of.
At work ... you're on your own to sink or swim, there's no luxury of a safety net. -

after a few articles that came out saying that exxon-mobil, chevron and other oil companies are profiteering (duh!!) the "federal department" came out and said that there was no truth in the reports that oil companies are profiteering
well, explain US$36 billion profits last year!
and explain how come exxon-mobil has an even HIGHER profit this first quarter when compared to last year!
