They went to PRC and invest and ended into a 'butt of debts' (Chinese phrase) 
Their homebrand, like 2kg vegetable palm cooking oil, cost $2.80.. I can get a Hand Brand one for $2.80 as well at a chap huey tiam
Cos they just mark up the other brands or bring in the more ex one to tell ppl my brand one is 'cheapest'

I go to Cold Storage for their much better selction AND better service. I think their staff actually receive some training in customer service.
NTUC more often than not you get the disgrunted aunties. Somemore not always cheaper than Cold Storage. -

Service at NTUC? They know the meaning of the word? On top of that, their aisles are too narrow, especially the Yishun MRT branch. Grrr. I prefer Cold Storage too. Especially their delivery service. Last Mother's Day some other Singaporeans in exile came up with the idea of having some groceries delivered to our mums on that day. I had a problem with my order and the service manager took the time to call me back (I was living in Japan then) at almost 9pm Sg time. actually, to be fair to NTUC, it has a difficult tasking at hand, NTUC cannot play walmart tactics and squeeze out the mom-and-pop chap heh tiams ... or other smaller retail chains ... and it is also responsible for strategic food stocks like rice .....
but it doesn't exonerate them for turning corporate though ... -
