credit cards are tools.. i use it a lot to pay my bills.. however, to blame the card companies for what is essentially his inability to control himself, his inability to think for himself, is not right.. it's a cop-out..
and to blame the gabrament about it is worse..
I second this!
An individual is responsible for his/her actions. Granted, some of us do commit mistakes in our moments of weakness and foolish misjudgements and in such instances, I feel the individual should approach this voluntary body where people inundated with huge credit card bills can seek help to work out a more feasible sum of repayment to the credit card companies and possibly, seek a modification of the interest rates whilst they work to pay it off.
If you have committed a mistake, face up to it, face the music, pay the penalties and adjust your lifestyle accordingly if you have to to erase the debt.
BUT, I do not agree that the govt should step in in such cases. It's good enough that there's a voluntary organisation that can help you in the ways I mentioned above. Repayment and rectification of one's errors in judgement is necessary. It might be a painful few years before the debt is erased, but it's righting one's error. Somewhat similar to paying penance, which is not altogether bad because it shows remorse, and a lesson will be learnt which will not be easily forgotten. Better still, when one finally clears the debt, one would have an incredible sense of freedom and a big lesson learnt that one won't easily forget.
I do not support being judgemental against these individuals and condemn them because some of us do learn from our mistakes.

However, I also do not support the govt stepping in to foot the debt in any way because an individual has to be responsible for his / her actions, be they mistakes or otherwise.
