No, no......my eyes okay but prevention mah.Originally posted by jetta:Talk about bak chew. I've been talking to my Sg optician about getting my new prescription filled since it's cheaper. But I was at Costco yesterday to pick up film and I strayed to the optical area. Cheap! Only $250 for what I'm looking for. How bad are your eyes?
Re: Tulips *zoom!*
Aiyah, jetta.........I told you already. Kuay teow is "hor". Look for the Chinese character, "River".Originally posted by jetta:Nope. I'll get it right some day.![]()

Not yet. They have a 2-hour appointment in an hour, getting the equipment fitted. Poor things. Porridge for the next few days for them.Originally posted by littlestream:No lah, I doubt. He is very wise mah.

Aiya, surely someone in Singapore can take and e-mail you a picture of a plate of kway teow that you can print out and keep in your purse, so you can show the order taker at the restaurant just what you want.Originally posted by jetta:For sure? I don't want to look like a fool.![]()
You'll have a good time. I've never been to the East Coast though. My dream is to be there during Christmas to see the tree, do some skating and lots of shopping.Originally posted by littlestream:With the strength in the C$, I should really consider doing some exchange. My sis told me they may be going to US. Her son is enrolled in a uni in NJ. She is asking me to join them in US. They visited Toronto until sian liao. Thrice for both sisters so yah, I think they have had enough.
I think I'll plan for Atlantic City, NYC and perhaps Boston?
I'll just take streamie's word for it and try it next time. Thanks!Originally posted by Meia Gisborn:Aiya, surely someone in Singapore can take and e-mail you a picture of a plate of kway teow that you can print out and keep in your purse, so you can show the order taker at the restaurant just what you want.![]()
For sure, the current cost of gasoline would make one think twice about embarking on such an extended trip nowadays. Gone are the days of $0.89/gal. gas (you remember those, don't you???).Originally posted by jetta:Wow MG. Re: your road trip. Awesome! That's the one thing we'd like to do but the thought of putting all that mileage on my car kinda stings. Hubby says that when he retires we'll rent an RV and just get lost for a couple months.
We've been itching to take short weekend trips since we got here but one thing or another always gets in the way. Our first destination: Joshua Tree.
I wasn't stateside during those days of cheap gas. Too bad for us.Originally posted by Meia Gisborn:For sure, the current cost of gasoline would make one think twice about embarking on such an extended trip nowadays. Gone are the days of $0.89/gal. gas (you remember those, don't you???).
You're right about the mileage thing. When we went on that transcontinental road trip, we drove my roommate's ratty old Buick Skyhawk which fortunately didn't break down. However, if I were to make a similar trip today, I'd probably just rent a car and take advantage of the unlimited mileage that most rental agencies offer on their passenger cars.
In my opinion, AC isn't really worth visiting unless you intend to gamble at the casinos and/or do the boardwalk thing.Originally posted by littlestream:With the strength in the C$, I should really consider doing some exchange. There's definitely more to see and do in NYC and Boston, but do realize they are very expensive cities.
If your relatives and you are going to tour the east coast, I would strongly suggest that you find time to take in the museums of the Smithsonian Institution in WDC. The wealth of accumulated knowledge contained in those museums is truly, truly mind-numbing.
