i guess you were never exposed to the other side of these "successful" businessmen..
other people's businesses have been destroyed, lives have been destroyed, areas, land, and a whole lot of other things have been destroyed by these "successful" businessmen...
where they went, the would just use the juggernaut of their purchasing power to forcefully wipe out all competition, then begin to turn everything into a homogenised thing...
all for profit... but when does it end?
the answer is that it doesn't...
out of control corporations have become entities in themselves, a kind of uncontrollable chimera which destroys and consumes everything for the unrelenting pursuit of profit...
i would suggest that EVERY business student read a couple of books... they are:
The Corporation: The Pathological Pursuit of Profit
Confessions of an Economic Hit Man
and if they can still think of businessmen who ruthlessly loot the world and screw everyone around for profit are their idols and look up to them, they should do a lot of self-reflection of what it means to be human..
seriously...
why do you think a lot of people say that Wal-Mart is evil? well, the smiley thing is just the tip of the iceberg...
do some research.. dig deeper than just the usual claptrap the universities dish out to you...
remember another thing: the university doesn't tell you what to remember.. a GOOD university shows you that you can think and allows you to think for yourself.. so, do that, go do the research which is off the beaten track.. and maybe you'll come to the realisation that everything taught in economics is dead wrong and it will lead the world to total ruin..

conveniently forgetting that lau goh got a more than 75% vote in the last elections
the opposition gained ground on the PAP this time..
but sadly, like a lot of other people, we see that lau goh was forced into a lose-lose situation.. and was made to go back on his word by the "party" (lau lee himself) to toe the party line.. and attack Gomez a day after he said that everyone should move on..

it shows clearly a schism and some infighting within the party actually..
now, the Dragon Prince is trying to consolidate his position by throwing out the people who cannot in good conscience support him within the party.. the people like Wang Kai Yuen, Tan Soo Khoon.. who verbally destroyed him a few years ago in parliament...
they were "smaller fry" and were easier to rid...
the bigger fish were Tony Tan and Lau Goh..
Tony Tan has left and leaving Lau Goh, they had to rid Lau Goh somehow.. so in this GE, they made him go to Hougang, Potong Pasir and attack Gomez.. things you can see by his body language he didn't want to do... and things he said he didn't believe in, but was made to go the other way the next day...
so now, you got the sycophants, the hangers-on...
like Lau Goh himself said, the people are not stupid..

LTK runs the Workers' Party now.. it's now a well-run (except for the idiot James Gomez) party with some pretty credible people in it..
Chaim is still around but he really needs to groom a successor.. he's 71 this year..
Lau Goh? he's the Senior Minister but it is almost a given that the whole party is still dictated by Lau Lee... and to build a dynasty for his Dragon Prince, he will have to ruthlessly remove all the obstacles in the way of his son holding on to power.. and if it means removing Lau Goh, they will..
which is why they sent Lau Goh into Hougang and Potong Pasir to "persuade" the citizens there with the Party line of veiled threats and extortions.. any damned fool could see that Lau Goh was forcing himself to smile and he was uneasy doing all that..
it is a sad and sordid affair...
