Oh yeah SG lawOriginally posted by the Bear:he's singaporean, living in Muar...
he can't get a car there and drive it here...
Some have seen the buses, the standing area for those are reserved for the handicapped, no one other than them is to be thereOriginally posted by the Bear:the "for the handicapped" buses are nonsense... again, like most things by the management of singapore (we don't even attempt to disguise the fact that the bus companies are not gabrament ones) they are done for show...
tell me.. what's the point of "for the handicapped" when we don't even have enough space for the normal people who fill the bus to busting point?
For all it's minuses, public transport in Sg is much better than many other countries. Japan's public transportation is wonderful. It took Hubby no time to understand the system and he doesn't read Kanji. He was the one who taught me.Originally posted by sbst275:Some have seen the buses, the standing area for those are reserved for the handicapped, no one other than them is to be there
But the most irritating is the ramp that made the width of the buses longer by 5cm, though it isn't much it's a headache to the depots
Take buses there is all flat fare, OMO systemOriginally posted by jetta:For all it's minuses, public transport in Sg is much better than many other countries. Er...not where I used to live leh. What threw me off at first was the boarding in the back of the bus and alighting in the front bit.Originally posted by sbst275:Take buses there is all flat fare, OMO system
I think it goes by rts and areaOriginally posted by jetta:Er...not where I used to live leh. What threw me off at first was the boarding in the back of the bus and alighting in the front bit.The fare deposit "bank" also makes change!
Yes, routes and areas, prefectures, all different.Originally posted by sbst275:I think it goes by rts and area![]()
Give change? Isn't that very lei chei?
I seeOriginally posted by jetta:Yes, routes and areas, prefectures, all different.
Giving change, not lei chei at all. Completely automated. Just feed your paper note in and it'll spit the change right out.
Yes, yes... different. While in Japan, there was no Japan Hour.Originally posted by the Bear:was watching the Japan Hour.. some buses you gotta get on at the back, and in other prefectures, gotta get on from the front..
the old couple was explaining this
i'm still in my "procrastination mode" coz i hate cleaning up the room
Those Kikkoman soy sauce there is locally brewed?Originally posted by jetta:Yes, yes... different. While in Japan, there was no Japan Hour.Everything's in Japanese so we would just watch and try to understand. Japanese TV is very interesting, although very banal sometimes. The first time we were there (96-99), cable was just too expensive so we had nothing in English. Didn't even have a bilingual TV then so life was miserable. The second time we were there (02-05), the economy had cooled off. Cable tv was affordable and the base tv system for those living off base was in place. We were sooo happy.

They showed the process on Jap TV. That's the thing about Jap TV, they show you stuff like how to wash your hat the right way, 100 Top Ramen or whatever; how to recycle... There is a tv show called omoshiro recycle, showcasing ideas from people. Really ingenious. Even if you don't understand a word of Japanese, it's really fascinating TV. Then there are other shows that are really really stupid.Originally posted by sbst275:Those Kikkoman soy sauce there is locally brewed?

Can you imagine shopping in a Japanese supermarket having to guess what you're buying? It bugged me initially but after that I really enjoyed it. Even though there were times I really didn't want to be in Japan, I miss alot about being there. The food, the food and the food.Originally posted by sbst275:I still remember the Top 100 Ramen ed on Japan Hour
Here, the Kikkoman also locally produced here in Singapore

Yah, wasn't he a stinker?Originally posted by the Bear:yeah.. i like the bits where everyone was dressed as a hand.. and given simple math where they all had to dive onto a number which was the correct answer...
and the maze where men dressed as orges would go blacken the faces of those they caught
it was a hoot!
never saw anyone beat Takeshi tho'... he cheated.. had a small little paper disc and a watercannon while the rest had little squirtguns
