the "for the handicapped" buses are nonsense... again, like most things by the management of singapore (we don't even attempt to disguise the fact that the bus companies are not gabrament ones) they are done for show...
tell me.. what's the point of "for the handicapped" when we don't even have enough space for the normal people who fill the bus to busting point? -

For all it's minuses, public transport in Sg is much better than many other countries. Japan's public transportation is wonderful. It took Hubby no time to understand the system and he doesn't read Kanji. RE: Giving change, not lei chei at all. Completely automated. Just feed your paper note in and it'll spit the change right out. -

Everything's in Japanese so we would just watch and try to understand. Japanese TV is very interesting, although very banal sometimes. The first time we were there (96-99), cable was just too expensive so we had nothing in English. Didn't even have a bilingual TV then so life was miserable. The second time we were there (02-05), the economy had cooled off. Cable tv was affordable and the base tv system for those living off base was in place. We were sooo happy.

They showed the process on Jap TV. That's the thing about Jap TV, they show you stuff like how to wash your hat the right way, 100 Top Ramen or whatever; how to recycle... There is a tv show called omoshiro recycle, showcasing ideas from people. Really ingenious. Even if you don't understand a word of Japanese, it's really fascinating TV. Can you imagine shopping in a Japanese supermarket having to guess what you're buying? It bugged me initially but after that I really enjoyed it. Even though there were times I really didn't want to be in Japan, I miss alot about being there.
