Hey, sbs! I noticed something this morning on my way into work, and immediately thought about you.
As you might already know, I take the express bus to work. It's essentially a 10-wheeled, 45-foot tour coach that has been pressed into service as a public bus.
I get off at the very last stop, which is at a cul-de-sac where the bus has to make a
very tight 180° turn to exit. I've always wondered how such a large vehicle was able to accomplish such a tight manoeuver, and finally found out today: apparently, the coach is equipped with steerable rear wheels that turn in the opposite direction of the front wheels, to reduce the turn radius. I just happened to glance back as the coach was making the turn this morning, and noticed it.
Pretty cool, in my opinion, and it got me wondering how common such a feature is on public buses. And of course, I thought of you!
