But the fact being no 1 in profitability remains a qn as to whether a hike is needed
But no profits, no money to replace their bus fleet, at least some decent amt like $10M should be good enoughOriginally posted by the Bear:but seriously.. they are a PUBLIC SERVICE.. and a VITAL PUBLIC SERVICE!
there is no need for profits...
what they need to do is to have a sustainable system for the country...
there is NO NEED and NO PLACE for growth in a PUBLIC SERVICE

But they are getting into extending the life of the train
Even our charities are run like profit driven organisations *cough* NKF *cough*Originally posted by the Bear:but seriously.. they are a PUBLIC SERVICE.. and a VITAL PUBLIC SERVICE!

It's really hard to sayOriginally posted by the Bear:that's BULL... you FACTOR in your costs of running.. it is all factored in already..
tell you something, one of my friends was an accountant.. he had a knock down drag out fight with his firm...
they wanted him to sign the audit for the then-TIBS... it was ALL nonsense.. fantasy accounting... showed a loss... but it was all rubbish.. they made a profit but was shown as a loss when they lumped in a whole lot of one-off rubbish due to mismanagement..
ultimately, the higher ups signed the audit...
the audit gave TIBS an increase in fare..
the next year, they made an OBSCENE profit..
replacements are NOT and NEVER EVER fuelled by profit... they are all factored into sunk costs...

Cos the operators these days are jumping into applying for add 2 year stat lifespan extn
Reminds me of the time I was examining the income & expenditure statements of one of our local VWOs. You wouldn't believe the stunts they pulled to show a "loss".Originally posted by the Bear:that's BULL... you FACTOR in your costs of running.. it is all factored in already..

Go buy their shareOriginally posted by av98m:End of the day, how? Its not like we can boycott the mrt and the buses. Unless you want to risk your life cycling.
On that note, the bus driver who killed the cyclist got only 6 year's ban from driving and $7k fine. Damn, if I know that someone I really hate cycles, I should go run him over with a car. $7k and a 6 year ban is worth it!![]()

At least recover some of the cost back.. That's 1 way
If the dead cyclist was an MP or minister, you can bet the punishment will be very different.Originally posted by the Bear:do any of our million dollar ministers cycle?
oh yah.. i forgot... they "don't have the luxury to take public transport" so they probably don't have the luxury of cycling too
