Well each has its own good and bad. As long as you like what you're doing, and it puts food on the table, its okay. Just don't be like my friend's cousin who hasn't even gotten anything resembling a job after his graduation and is still dependent on handouts from his folks. His graduation was 6 years ago btw.Originally posted by Fatum:well ... the folks think that my doing freelance programming and flipping second cars right now = bumming around ....

Just so you know, I took 6 months to become gainfully employed. The job market was shit.Originally posted by Fatum:oh well ... I dunno ... everyone else seems to be so kiasu in rushing into a job ... I sometimes feel I'm off to a slow start ...

I was doing some freelance work during the 6 months that paid OK ($500 to $700 per month, enough for me to live on). So it was actually an enjoyable period of my life. Had a lot of bumming around time.Originally posted by Fatum:wah piang ...

I dunno ... you know how some Singaporean parents think eh ... they'll tell their kids to head out to greener pastures somewhere else and get out of the pressure cooker ... but they all want their kids close by and all ....Originally posted by choco B:Uhm, maybe if you just told them that straight, that you'll look for a job when you're back home, they'd understand? I'm sure they want their boy back .....
That's what my parents told my bro and almost practically forced him to stay in Oz but he didn't like it there and insisted on coming backOriginally posted by Fatum:I dunno ... you know how some Singaporean parents think eh ... they'll tell their kids to head out to greener pastures somewhere else and get out of the pressure cooker ... but they all want their kids close by and all ....
but I think i've seen that it's all relative ... as much as I love it here, I've always felt like a transient ... and there's the uglier side of things as well ...
my younger sis is an air-stewardess who's never home because of her job ... younger bro is a poly kid partying hard and long ... phone convos back home always last a long time, cos I know they miss me and need someone to talk to ...
oh well ... I dunno ... tough choices ahead ...

Yeah back then really sucks big time especially for biz grads like meOriginally posted by choco B:LOL
Better than BACK THEN
I think as long as your folks know you're employable in Sg they wouldn't worry so much about you coming home. Besides you could find a job that gets you posted out again for work.
There are both high paying(starting from $2k+ to $3k++) as well as shit pay($1.4 to $1.6k) positions offered by companies. You'll have to shop around and maybe ask friends who are already working, as many positions are actually never advertised in the papers.Originally posted by Fatum:wah piang ....
