bet you the palm oil tycoons have a hand in this.. it's cheaper to burn the forest down to plant the palm oil than to clear it with bulldozers...
the indonesians lack the political will to do anything..
it is simple.. go find evidence that the palm oil companies are doing it, then yank their licenses, then reforest the place NOT with palm oil trees but grab it as "national park" where no one is allowed to do anything on it..
then confiscate ALL the assets of the company and break up the company, as in, make it non-existent.. confiscate ALL the assets of the people who own the company where the money comes from that company...
and keep doing it... until the burning stops..

The two-hour third season premiere of Battlestar Galactica just aired this evening; I just got back from watching it with about seven others at a friend's house...
... and yes, it's every bit as dark and depressing as it was predicted it to be. The production values continue to remain top-notch and the acting superb, but you're definitely not going to confuse this with a Disney production.
The premiere ended on one heck of a cliffhanger, so I'll definitely be tuning in again next Friday. Yikes!
