Well our wedding cost about $23-25K. Got back most of it from generous relatives who gave very generous angpows!
We had our wedding over 2 days... first one with pastor marrying us was held in a cosy room overlooking the city, in a nice hotel (buffet style tea reception with 6 tables). The next day, we had the dinner with 8 course meal (I'm still sore that I didn't get to eat all the sumptious food, esp. the soup dish which I heard was yummy!
) Err I think that one had about 25 tables bah... -

You and your SO gotta agree on the scale mah. Whether it is a run-away type, no need dinner and frills so can be very cheap. Just register and go away on a honeymoon. Like a beach resort in the Caribbean or something.
If you wanna big scale, then a banquet lor. Then, banquet also got pee got gui one. Work out the number of tables. Photography, videography, blah, blah, blah..................erm, good luck calculating ah.

Had a western-styled dinner in Equinox with close relatives and friends with a JP marrying us. Next day had the traditional dinner in the ballroom with about 70 tables iirc. Busted a hole in the pocket as angpaos didn't quite cover all costs. -

I suppose when it comes to wedding, there are also other expenses such as bridal photo-taking and gowns etc. -
My dinner was about $75+ per head, buffet dinner style (but the food was pretty good).. at a place near the sea.. about 28 tables.. lazy to do the maths...
But managed to cover dinner thanks to very generous relatives too..
Didn't get a mwedding package... Didnt bother to do studio photography or all those bridal photography.. though I did have a photographer for the event itself. Got a gown off the rack to modify at Empire cos i like their cuts... -think- and took their ROM package which has flowers + makeup and all.. for my dinner..

You don't even NEED a rock u know... neither my proposal ring or wedding ring has any rocks on them. Simple bands.

Too many factors and options to consider leh. Like I said, up to individual preference and budget.
But if you wanna buy a big rock, treat it like an investment, get a better one with certs and everything. If the size is too small to matter, then just a mid-budget unbranded one will do.

Current break down:
3400 for bridal package
600-1200 Camera man on wedding day
1000 per table for 15 tables
2000 wedding rings
approximately 5-800 for roast pig, cakes and etc
Approximately 300 for the girl side traditional bath tub and etc
700 - 3000 for double bed
5-700 for 8 number of new set of clothes (if you follow tradition, inner and outer wear)
You see, price range depends on the things you choose. Some of our items is very expensive. Some are cheap. But if mid range about 20 to 25k just for wedding. But if you are doing up your house, its another story. - I did mine at about 20K.
