It's the month to wrap-up the whole year and the month to party and for some of us, the time to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas!
Amidst all the flurry of activities, don't forget to pick up that book and read too!

My word, this is an AMAZING, truly wonderful book on the ocean and the life in it with tons of breathtaking shots!
And, this book, "We Want Real Food", written in conjuction with the revolution in the UK started by Jamie Oliver with his TV show on School Dinners. It's one of those books that exposes what the food industry is doing. Somehow, couldn't find that title in Amazon's archives.

i didn't finish the murakami i was reading last month...
now i'm reading "Tess of the d'Urbervilles" and i've been stuck at chapter three ever since early december -
reread dan brown's books, read the messiah code by michael cordy, its really good. currently reading michael crichton's state of fear as highly recommended by a friend but the beginning is draggy cant get into the story
anyone has good reads to recommend? -

Tess of the d'Urbervilles?! I had to do that for 'S' Paper and I loved it! Have you read the poem, 'Tess' Lament' composed by the author himself after he'd finished writing the book? my copy's tattered from years of re-reading ... but this book never fails to move me ...

Han Suyin's A Many Splendoured Thing .....
my copy's tattered from years of re-reading ... but this book never fails to move me ... In the meantime, there's nothing like cuddling up to a good book in bed, not comparable, but oh well, as the Hokkien saying goes, bo hee hare ah ho! (No fish, prawn also can!)

it's not someone I seek ... but the ONE ....
but go dig out Han Suyin's works ... it's truly truly worth it ... she's one of the best Asian writers I've ever read (though she's actually eurasian) .... -

Gist of the story is that a young lady in future, wents out to space to work on a Starliner. Marooned on a plant with the man she loves and eventually returning to her time via the same black hole that maroons her.
Incidently, she was marooned and married her man 9 years earlier. Time travel story. However, written by a local Singapore writer. I find her idea of telling that story by not forcing on religion, by claiming the Christian faith is called "The Mind" and the followers "believers" somewhat of a correlation to Buddhism teachings.
In the book, there is concepts of deja vu, time travel and Heaven/Gods's/fate at work.
A interesting and non intimidating read.
This book is no longer in print. Does anyone knows how to reprint that book? -

apparently it's a true story of 1001 nightswithout sex!

the author calls her sexless days the "STREAK" and in the book she chronicles the ture story of the STREAK and her outrageous attempts to end it! haha a desperate woman she was i must say... going for speed dating, to match.com,to stalking guys who are married!, and even moving all over to world to find MR RIGHT!
but eventually.. we (girls) must stop to ponder whether we really need a man to find happiness.
the author's style of writing is really hilarious! i finished the entire book on my flight back to singapore! (got the book at japan airport)

'S' Paper that's pretty extreme.
Should I read those poems before or after I finish the story?
I think the effect will be greater if I read AFTER I finish the story right?

After 2 years of reading total rubbish, I spent two hours in the ward (was waiting for my turn to have wisdom teeth removed) reading two measly chapters of Hardy. I was doing some other things in between, but I'm finding it hard to digest the book properly if I read too much in one go.
And the dictionary! THE DICTIONARY!!!
I need a digital pocket Oxford dictionary.
Anyone knows where I can buy one? -
