the first day in melbourne, i did that..
people were looking at me strangely when i told them the best day of my time in melbourne was the first day when i got totally lost

That's the SO and me GPS-sing our way to the Boeing factory on our visit to Seattle earlier this year. -
eh i got lost in melbourne too~ i was walking around and i walked very far.
a couple walking their dogs came up to me and said i looked lost
i gave them the address and they said i am very very very far.
i was supposed to go to QV, beside the library.
i walked all the way to the university. -
One of the last trip we went riding.
One guy, the supposedly leader has a GPS.
After some friendly scaring of how lost the leader can be..the guys then huddles together to look at the map and the best instructions from that huddling.
"When you come to this junction of this town. You will see a big sign to tell you to turn right."
The guys who huddled mutters: "The map where got show a big sign to turn right?"
All of us followers bikers couldnt care less and was laughing and delighted at the prospect of getting lost. -
i think for 2007 i'll skip bangkok (unless i find a wife/gf there)
i am considering USA (top priority) and Melbourne. -

i asked a cop after wandering around for about 6 hours
he was nice enough to tell me exactly how to get back to my hostel -

Bikers though.....best to stop somewhere, take a hot cup of tea and maybe find a small hotel to shower and sleep in. Especially when strong winds can blow a bike off course into oncoming traffic. -

And if you got no one to go to. You can try the Green Tortise.
its actually a tourbus converted to some sort of backpackers sleeper cum camping Bus.
You can fly to where they start a ride, hop on. riding along the bus to one location. camping at another location or basically sleep in the bus and wake up at another location depends on the schedule.
And its cheap, about US$699/- for a 14 day trip. Including camping food. -
