Right now our options are:Originally posted by the Bear:uhh.. it happens to aluminium
Originally posted by fudgester:Right now our options are:
1. Send the whole frame for heat treatment after welding. But that costs a huge crapload of tamales. and our budget is a pitiful $1500.
2. Change to steel. Steel has an even temper (pardon the pun) that does not change with welding. The techs claim that we can compensate for the extra density by making the tubes thinner by 1/3.
The problem is that stainless steel is tough to weld, and mild steel is prone to corrosion. And besides, mild steel tubes of such thinness are hard to come by commercially in Singapore - we'd have to import it.
3. Either increase the thickness or the outer diameters of the aluminium tubes that we're using.
Looks like (3) is the only viable option right now.![]()
It's a sports wheelchair that we're designing. Specifically, for tennis.Originally posted by the Bear:yeah.. by changing to steel and thinning it out to 1/3 will compromise the strength of the structure whatever it is...

That probably rules out fabricating the frame from some kind of composite material, like a carbon fiber-reinforced polymer.Originally posted by fudgester:There are plenty of conditions to be met.
1. Cost < $1500.
You seemed to have done very well in getting good job offers. What do you think contributed to it? Good results? Or good perf at the intw?Originally posted by laurence82:arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

and wondering what i should cook
Erm...i don't know. You reckon a potluck is a good way to meet many ppl for the first time?Originally posted by the Bear:coming?
thing about the duck is that i will have to stand over it for about 2 hours... the ribs i just bung it into the slow cooker and leave it for a long time
i put to a vote one of these days
also, it's actually kind of hard to find the giant type ducks these days.. i will have to go scout out the wet markets

braised duck, egg, and tau gua will suffice
We considered that - but the costs are too great.Originally posted by Meia Gisborn:That probably rules out fabricating the frame from some kind of composite material, like a carbon fiber-reinforced polymer.
You're still unemployed, right? If so, you should have time aplenty to attend this event.Originally posted by laurence82:arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I'll put up the thread by this weekendOriginally posted by the Bear:i'll say only duck then..
braised eggs need about 3 days of stewing before it is good...
and i'll need to get the duck...which means some shopping on a sunday one week before the day itself
