And people who refuse to work late usually end up getting fired or their career become hentankaki (no promotions, no increments).Originally posted by elindra:The gov will never learn that people who have to work late will never want to have kids
1. You are at work the whole day. Who is looking after the kid? A kid is not like a dog whom you can lock up in a room / cage if it misbehaves
2. Additional worries & stress
Plus all the reasons AV mentioned

I just finished cooking and hiding in the room so the family can have some 'family time'. Its sooo loving to hear them screaming at the kids alternately.![]()
Yeah manOriginally posted by av98m:And people who refuse to work late usually end up getting fired or their career become hentankaki (no promotions, no increments).
And its impossible to have only 1 parent working unless you're a minister, MP, CEO, company director etc.
Maid/grandparents raising the kids? Not a good thing.
I actually know people who have ended up dreading their screaming kids so much they purposely work unitl very late in the office![]()

what about a steamer and an oven?Originally posted by viciouskitty74:Choco.
For a old time cook like myself & thebear, we only need:
One Wok with a high cover
One Pot high enough to boil soup with cover
Rice Cooker with Steamer option
For a small family, lets say Maximum 4 person:
At least a 26 inch wok; maximum 30inch.
Those Cornell Pot enough to submerge a small chicken will do.
Rice cooker with for 10 person, preferably that enclose ones that got timer to make porridge so you wont have to stand around to have to turn the cooker to warmer settings.
And get those wooden spoons or spatula for cooking. The metal ones are too noisy clanging on the sides of the pots. And the plastic wans melt. Also get those long bamboo/wooden chopsticks with no lacquer on them. They are better to use to turn some dishes or to pick up the veggies.
And if you are living in a condo/flat or apartment. Get one electrical deep fryer. Trust me, your cooker hood oil/smoke sucker is going to lose its ability in 3 months so you might as well get the deep fryer.
And lastly, a crockpot.
I think there's no such thing as kids who don't scream. Try eating out on weekends and count the no. of screaming brats you hear.Originally posted by elindra:Yeah man
We will get such a huge income cut if one of us stops working
And that is with an additional mouth to feed
And that is like having to live on a shoestring budget for the next 20 yrs too
Screaming kids..... Can't stand those
If I have any I certainly hope they are quiet![]()
Originally posted by Wanda:Yep. You'll have to season it well with oil, or better still, with lard. Then use regularly to prevent rust. The more you use it, the better it gets (except if you use it for steaming often, which kind of strips off the " seasoned coat " ).![]()
Wok works as a steamer. And the new age rice cookers comes with a steamer attachment.Originally posted by hisoka:what about a steamer and an oven?

Yep. You'll see the result on the wok after all that steaming. The " naturally-formed " non-stick coat will fade off, which makes it prone to rust if not used often for frying or stir-fry.Originally posted by choco B:Do you mean steaming is not good for the wok?
Hmm maybe I should keep my nonstick wok just for that purpose?
wok steam troublesome lah, + msut cook more water i think.Originally posted by viciouskitty74:Wok works as a steamer. And the new age rice cookers comes with a steamer attachment.
And electric steamer is good if you have kids or you are living alone and only eats veggies.
Then get those 3 tiers electric steamer. They are lehchey to wash though.
Top tier steam brocoli; 2nd tier steam fish & final tier steam your rice/porridge.
But wok...usually can only steam one layer.Originally posted by choco B:Do you mean steaming is not good for the wok?

My mom passed me her well-used wok when I moved out, but sadly, it rusted due to lack of use, and I had to throw it away.![]()
Yah....wok steaming very lehchey, must always monitor the water level.Originally posted by hisoka:wok steam troublesome lah, + msut cook more water i think.
crockpot?

If you want to steam multiple items, you cannot do it all at the same time. Very lehchey leh.
