they are very 'dark' fairy tales.. the original type so cool~ -

detail to hell and back and then to hell again was Tolkien... his books were almost unreadable to me... one bloody song was one chapter!

I find one thing about Things Fall Apart and .. books like "Walkabout" about indigeneous people is that they tend to focus a lot A LOT on the pastoral scenery. Its like every chapter will be 2-3 paragraphs on 'natural' scenes. Of course much of the natural scene description 'sets' the mood for what happens eventually but sometimes I get bogged down by it and loses stamina to continue reading it.... -

i don't like tolkien because, like i said, he was long-winded as heck and left nothing to imagination.. he prattled on and on and on about the smallest details..
which is why Jackson could make something that good in the movies.. everything was written for him and the screenwriter didn't need to do much imagining
