Yeah.... whoever who still dares to look down on poly grads ought to have their heads examined.
Poly wasn't an option for me at that time, though. My family had fallen on hard times, and I knew that if I wanted to make it to university it would have to be a local one. A foreign university was completely out of the option - while my grades weren't all that bad, they weren't exactly scholarship material, either.
And if I were to go to poly my education would have to end there.... it was either poly or university but not both, for my family couldn't afford it. So I went to JC.
Heck, I initially took a 60% interest-free loan from Mendaki (they wouldn't pay me more) after my dad said that he would bear the rest of the cost. After the dumb administration raised the fees for two years consecutively, though, I took out another loan from DBS after realising that my dad couldn't bear the fee hikes.
So now I'm shouldering the full cost of studying in NUS. -

1 JC principal's remark was kinda mocking at Poly...

In any case, academic success is a highly narrow definition of success. There are many ways to be successful, and academic success is only one measure of it.
I once knew a girl from my batch who dropped out of my JC after she failed her Yr 1 promo exams. She went on to become an SIA stewardess. She then eventually joined a talent search competition - and she's now a rising star on the Suria channel.
She eventually got married to a well-known local artiste and now has her own home and family.
I once put forth this story to the Whinehouse kids when they were lamenting about their upcoming A Level results. It gave them some serious food for thought - exactly who's the more successful one here? That girl, or myself?
She may have less education than I do.... but I would say that she's the more successful one overall. -

It is truly wonderful and extremely liberating to live amidst a society where you are not valued according to your assets / grades. Makes me kinda glad that I opted out of the rat race!

I just got back from what they call the Fashion Island. A cluster of major shopping mall brands...in a district known as the 2nd Beverly Hills.
Got Macys, got Bloomingdale, got Saks, got Merna Nerious Something.
I browsed thru The Body Shop, Nike Woman & Victoria secrets. Saw a really bright red/orange baby doll top with g strings set. Only USD$32.90. Very tempted to buy....but then...I got no wan to wear and show to.
And another red leather & translucent fabric corset set, that will look good with a devils tail, a devils fork & some kinki pointy ears on a hair band thngy & leather boots.
Again....I think it might allow me to make most men puke blood instead of being seduced....
Their perfume sets was very nice and cheap. I think maybe I will get some sets back, they will make great travelling souvenir gifts.
Everything here is soooo expensive! I finally got to talkto my sister and tells her. I hate the prices here. everything is like overpriced at 3000 percent just to 'chop carrots'! Please....lots of things, i can find at This Fashion Stores in Singapore! -
I am seriously a cheapskate.
My jeans cost me S$10/- a pair. And I grabbed 10 at one go at CK Department Stores or Shop-In Stores. My tees & polo tees from Hang Ten Boutique Sale Shops. My dresses, skirts, blouses & bags I get at Ths Fashion Stores at less then $20 a piece. From Singapore.
My undies I buy in Malaysia at RM10/- a bra/set of 3 panties.
My heels, I now learnt to buy at Thailands night market which caters to the locals at 99Baht a pair.
My only indulgences are only perfumes, cosmetics, bath products & Hello Kitties. They are easy to buy at Watsons Personal Stores in Asia. My current only expensive perfume is only Gucci Envy toliette spray. The rest are Body Shops, Marks & Spencers & Johnson Babies. -
Well, all my clothes are within the $20-$30+ range.
The sole exception is my black Lumberjacks jacket which cost me $80. -
