you know what's strange?
i actually told my folks that for my generation, i do not believe in the "you owe your parents.. blah blah blah" bit...
i will make sure they will be well..
i will make sure i will not be destitute
if i have children, i will make sure they will not feel that they are indebted to me...
in that way, i hope to break the "filial piety" chains which hamstring a lot of asian people..
as a parent, you owe your children because you chose to put them on earth.. they never asked to be put on earth and because of that, parents have a sacred duty to make sure they are well brought up and unencumbered, without baggage both financial and emotional, to find their own way in life...Originally posted by honeymouse:The same with Oz...
I am not saying that it's wrong to support our parents but I think we shouldn't go and have children with that expectation and for the wrong reason.
Same thing with parents to children, they should teach the children to provide for themselves instead of "sucking" all the wealth from the parents and depend on them only! -

One of his ex, a gal his age, singapore diploma gal, has also aged parents and 2 school going brothers. Her parents are retired and though fairly decent, still demands money from her.
And my mother didnt like that. She felt the gal is not suitable, because she felt that her son should not be responsible of having to sustain his in law.

tis morn had a meeting with my lady boss and all the staffs... apparently some of them decided to take "time off" when they are simply late for work... i was late too cos woke up with flu, was sniffing and tearing away during the meeting...
boss mentioned, she'll treat individual differently... just like she won't be as harsh to me being late than the rest cos she sees the amount of hrs i put in working... but she also say it's not a license for me to be late lah...
but seriously, if my nose keep running, and my eyes cont'd tearing.. i can't see the monitor very well leh

in other news, one of these days, i'm going to poke the ceiling to make the chip board panel fall down...
because i know there are rats in the ceiling and i am hoping to ambush a rat, make it fall onto the ground and cause pandemonium in the office

I think the relationship between the children and parents will also be better without the "obligation" as you know the children will more likely to do that out of love instead of obligation. And the parents will show more appreciation instead of thinking that they deserve it.

Maths or no maths. Its the asian culture.
And we lived with it for so long. Those not experienced in other kind of mindsets, will hardly change because they arent familiar with it.
Like me, I am still not used to NOT ask anyone whether they want hot tea when they step near the kitchen....its strange innate sense of courtesy, that you step near my domain, I will offer you drinks at the very least. -

Little boy is going on a farm excursion. His grandma will be going along.
Its a organic farm where the little kids gets to pick berries.
Auntie is seriously lacking sleep, and best to sleep early so tomrrow can wake up earlier to prepare for the little boy's trip.
His grandma is due to pick up the boy at 8am latest.
