We sort of practise business differently.
We pay first, so the poor freelancer will have some cash or equipment to work with and get themselves started.
a bit like: I pay you some money 1st, so you can get the raw materials and if I run away, you at least still got some stuffs that is already payment for what you have already done.
A bit like 50% downpayment. -

wrong. 50% up front and 50% upon completion. same for a lot of jobs.
