The US has been able to survive up to this point, because there are still many countries transacting in US dollars (which, as we know, is free floating and not backed up by silver or gold, as it was way back in the past). The day countries decide to say f uck it, drop the US$ and switch to Euros or something, and stop buying up whatever the Federal Reserves print out (as far as I know the US is the only country that can get away with printing whatever $$$ it needs), the US dollar is going to collapse. frankly, i did Banking and Finance.. what i learnt was how to help businesses with finances so that they can go about their productive business... what's happening in the US, will implode one day...

could be... when countries decide to call in their markers, the US is dead.. but then, the whole world economy (including ours) is also dead since everything is transacted in USD.. the moment they do that, the bottom will fall out of the USD..
so they won't.. and the only answer is to slowly slowly move towards the euro..
anyway, watching the F1GP.. how the heck did those people get a job with ESPN-Star Sports?
sometimes i wonder about the presenters.. i figure i know more of some of the sports they cover
but then, on Raceday, there's Paula Malai Ali, so i can't complain

I might be going down to camera hospital myself.......looking for the old manual 24 and 35mm lenses.
The new Zeiss ones are just WAY too expensive. -

If you don't mind my asking... what's so good about Leica and Carl Zeiss lenses? -

I just want the old school metal barreled, manual focus lenses with the proper distance/focus markings on their barrels. Which is why I'm looking at old nikkons now. I used to have those lenses but sold them together with my old manual camera.
I'm still kicking myself for doing that

Its quite hard to explain really, but when you look at prints, even your own, chances are you can't tell which was taken with your expensive lens and which one with the cheap lens.
And you can take really horrible pictures with 10 thousand dollar cameras too. -

They've got a point there: even with an el cheapo camera, you can still take good shots if you know how to go about doing it. It just takes more effort, that's all.
That said, I'm still getting rid of my cranky Samsung digicam once I can afford to do so. It's highly unreliable (prone to jamming), and it sucks up battery life like a sponge. -
