i think the MOE should read the writing on the wall and slowly phase out the JCs...
and i fail to see why students should be forced to take what they don't want to just to keep going.. they speak of all kinds of things in education, yet when push comes to shove, they are just perpetrating another generation of "elites" -

I'd rather raise them in a country where, even if you do not make it to the top college you want to go to, you can still pursue the same course/interest at a lower-ranked college!!!
In Singapore lots of kids are forced into subjects they hate, and end up doing for a living something they hate. That is the real Singaporean tragedy. -

and how do you choose the "elite" ?
sadly, when i mentioned the true goal of education, which is to shape minds, teach people how to think critically, and to inspire the students to want to learn, i got a lot of blank stares..
they figure education is a means to an end.. that end being "good results"
the results are all-important.. what is learnt along the way isn't...
i guess it is a very machiavellian world we live in...

the "elite" schools in singapore, you don't need teachers...

the students are all tutored to hell at home or have already studied everything before the bloody lesson starts... -

It seems like though you did well in poly, but because of your poor O Lvl result, I'm sorry to say that you are at a disadvantage -

i once told off a senior management fella who was sprouting lyrical about another's "helicopter vision"
i said that being so high, everyone looks like ants.. and even if they look like ants, they aren't, they're real people.. however people with "helicopter vision" can't see that the ants are slogging away.. and usually get stepped on..

I think, the MIW would love to use the same system described to produce the elite and other classes in Brave New World if they thought they could get away with it.
