but then again, i never lost a calculator and i didn't claim one either but i know of my friend who did but if u would to go as far as to say he's cynical for claiming it then perhaps.....and anyway ur siutation won't be worse that of my friend. -

I don't want to argue with you, and I still stick by my point of view no matter what. The bottom line is that if you do something immoral, you risk hurting someone else even if you don't mean to do so.
I should know first-hand, since I had a guy who thought that it was pretty okay to grab someone else's work on the Internet and pass it off as his own. He didn't realise at that point in time that he could potentially hurt a lot of people in the process.
I could have been expelled from NUS along with all my team members if I hadn't caught on to what he did. No joke.
Likewise, if you grab someone else's calculator, you risk hurting the owner of the calculator who can't bear to do the same thing.
As a final word, I'm Muslim, and I believe that God sees my actions, and judges me for what I do. I may have to plonk down more money for a new calculator, but at least my conscience remains clear and I won't have to answer for anything.

Now think, what happens when you don't have a choice, 20 bucks is painful to you but affordable, but not everyone else and certainly not my friend is in the same position as you.
If i lost a calculator, i would rather it be picked up by someone who needs it, rather then have it thrown away. But thats just my thinking, and i'm not using it to justify this action.

same guy was shooting sardine shoals.. got to watch out for sharks, dolphins and gannets... the sardines swam into him and he was hit by a shark and the shark bites the camera

No dog in the fight here, but I thought I'd briefly mention how lost and found items are handled at my place of work.
I work for a very large State agency, with several thousand employees. Consequently, lots of items get picked up and turned in to the L&F counter. Umbrellas, sunglasses, car keys, coffee mugs, watches, jewelry, wallets, CDs, even electronic devices like calculators and MP3 players. How anyone loses a set of car keys and not claim it back, is beyond me.
Once a month, L&F items turned in and unclaimed within the past 30 days are displayed on a looooong table adjacent to the reception area in the lobby. The table stays for a couple of days, and then any unclaimed items are gathered up and thrown into a L&F bin in the Building Maintenance department and kept for another month. During this time, employees can request to rummage through the bin to look for lost items. After the month in storage is up, any remaining L&F items are released for disposal and either distributed to local charities or simply junked.
Incidentally, I have no doubt that some of the people helping themselves to the items on the L&F table aren't the owners of said items, but realistically, what can the reception area staff do to curtail that? -

but sharks rarely attack except for those tiger family -
it's a different thing from going to the L&F and claiming something as your own because you've lost yours...

We'll just argue that the budget of S$1500 simply does not allow for a low-cost, low-weight solution. There's only so much that you can do with aluminium. And we're already using aircraft-grade aluminium 6061 T6 alloy, by the way.
If they were to triple our budget, we could conceivably present them with a titanium wheelchair, but otherwise, there's only so much that creative engineering can do.... -
