1. You know about that friend of mine who tried to do something really stupid. Suffice to say that while it's under control, it really burnt me out pretty good. I actually went for professional counselling after that.
2. The plagiarism saga. That took up a lot of time and effort on my part to solve.
And one thing I learnt - the guy actually does visit sgforums. He came across the thread in Whinehouse about my rants on the whole saga. While he was understandably pissed at me, at the same time he finally understood just how serious his actions were. He got pretty dismayed at the fact that he could have gotten three other people face serious disciplinary action because of his lack of responsibility.
Suffice to say that I'm now at peace with him and I've deleted the thread... but I still refuse to work with him again in the future.
3. Missing things. My pencil case and calculator both went missing. Each loss cost me $20 - no small change to a cash-strapped undergrad.
4. The usual academic demands. To be frank, I coped pretty well with my studies for much of the semester. It has only been in the past two weeks or so that all the sh*t has been coming together. Consider my major tasks till the end of the month:
11th: CA test with 25% weightage
12th: Prototype presentation for the Rotary Club
18th: Public exhibition for finished prototypes
21st, 23rd, 26th, 30th: Exams
I'll try to take it easy as much as I can.

damn.. it's 9:05am and i'm already looking at the clock, wishing it was 6pm
poor colleague of mine.. stuck between a rock and a hard place..
we sent a huge pile of crap to be sent to the various HDB offices.. has to be sent by our despatch drivers of course... when i say a huge pile, i mean close to 100kg of pamphlets..
the mail room, which does mail.. tells us to arrange with the drivers since these are special deliveries and out of the way of the usual despatch routes... they could have but chose not to... so my colleague does the usual efficient thing and talks to the transport section..
thing is, the transport section is swamped, people are ill, the vans are kaput and they only have enough people and vehicles to do the daily despatch between the various sites.. and it's usually a lot, taking up the whole van.. so they ask that we wait until they can arrange it.. probably by next week..
colleague figures, no hurry... the delivery of the pamphlets aren't that important because HDB still has the older version... this is just a new version of it..
the boss is not happy that the mail room isn't doing this for us... and starts ranting at my colleague instead...
body language-wise, you can see she's upset... so she back to the cubicle and everything's dead quiet for a few minutes... then she sets about doing stuff which is not hers.. simple stuff like talking to some people to get their replies (actually, i was waiting until tomorrow because that's the usual one week of lead time we give them) and correspondence with them... anything but the actual work the boss gave to her...
the stupid boss has cracked under the pressure she put herself under.. her insistence on micromanaging everything and her inability to trust anyone is putting a strain on everyone around her..
heck! there was a project by another section which ended up with us for some reason.. instead of telling the other section "okay.. you send this because it's your project", she chose to write a whole lot of sycophantic BS which will grate and set your teeth on edge if you read it... so nothing was done... resulting in our side being asked for the update two months down the track and somehow, she taichi'ed it away..
she's got too much on her plate now, and her micromanaging everything is probably going to cause a breakdown... not her but us!

Say, they're announcing the pay revision thing today, no?
It suddenly struck me this morning, and I really should have realised it earlier, that bloody irony of the fucking pay revision. The last few years, there has been much effort by the higher ups to cut manpower cost and reduce headcount. And the orders came from above. There were even papers and circulars on the whole damned exercise. NOW they say they need to pay more to retain people in the service? -
it's sad..
this "revision" really isn't.. it's a smokescreen to increase their own pay by a ludicrous amount...
deflect hatred away from themselves, pull the civil serpents in front to be cannon fodder, get away with the pay increase while the civil serpents fall on their swords... -

Axe the non-elites and burden the remaining non-elites with more work
Submit a report of increased savings from increased productivity
