so she did it for the love of god which means she had motive to do it. she did what she did it because it was part of what she felt or perceived as the love of god.Originally posted by the Bear:ahhh.. i guess you don't see it..
you keep looking at how it may or may not benefit you...
for a person who does things out of love, kindness or chivalry, that thought never crosses his mind..
sadly, that person will be taken advantage of... but what does it matter?
People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered.
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies.
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you.
Be honest and sincere anyway.
What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight.
Create anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous.
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, will often be forgotten.
Do good anyway.
Give the best you have, and it will never be enough.
Give your best anyway.
In the final analysis, it is between you and God.
It was never between you and them anyway.
that's the Paradoxical Commandments, but given a twist by Mother Teresa.. who never questioned the "benefits to herself" of what she did for her ministry.. it was never for herself, to care for the least of humanity, is to care for God.. and it was the love of God which she did it all..

you refuse to see any benefit where there is.
i never said she sought benefits. i merely said she did the things she did because there are benefits.Originally posted by the Bear:did she seek "benefits"?
because she sure as heck didn't
i guess it's a question of values...
i value love and doing things out of love without the need of "benefits"
you seem to value the "benefits" and that motivates you to do things...
thats your benefit, you are glad. not all benefits need to be tangible.Originally posted by viciouskitty74:So if i am glad to be tearing devil down.
what are my benefits?
devil suggested otherwise. what do you think?

I won't know for sure but she probably felt compelled to do it out of compassion and would have felt bad if she didn't.Originally posted by the Bear:but what if you do things out of love which don't really "benefit" (in the eyes of many) anyone?
she did them too... without thought, without question...
washing the dead leper won't "benefit" anyone or anything.. yet she did...
sometimes, we put aside looking for benefits...
would you look for benefits in things you do out of love?
if you do, maybe it isn't.. that's the paradox of love
oh well, we all seek our ways... i've never looked at benefits, feeling good or whatever.. and i doubt i ever would... maybe i'm more right-brained than i thought i am

so thats probably the benefits too.
we may not exactly think of benefits when we do the acts, but the benefits do seem to cause us to do the act.
