  after this exchange with you, i start to understand why a lot of people especially at work view me with suspicion.. and some, downright hostility..
  
  i never had, and will never have ulterior motives for what i say and do at work.. and they seek to find these motives... and they fail to find them where there are none...
  
  the lack of such motives make them feel uneasy... they think that i have somehow plotted it in such a way that they are unable to see.. and then start to suspect me...
  
  i brushed that aside when i was told this by a friend and colleague... one of those good friends made at work... i guess he was right..
  
  

  i'm not looking for ulterior motives. nor do i assume pple always do things for an ulterior motive. i merely state that pple do things for a reason or a motive or a purpose.
  
  having benefits dictate your actions does not mean you are having ulterior motives.
  
  in your case, you probably do those things cos you feel its the right thing to do and feel that having other motives to what you do and say is detrimental to your mental or ethical well being

  there may be benefits.. but here's the thing about it.. which i've been trying to say..
  
  those who do things without ulterior motives don't even think about it.. and usually would totally fail to see any "benefits" at all because they don't even look out for them...
  
  while those who are obsessed with benefits, will tend to let that motivate their actions.. and it becomes their reasons for doing anything...

  and what i'm saying is even if you don't see the benefits as such, you are still motivated by them.
  
  your values dictate your moves and the desire to to keep the values and uphold them are the motivation.
  
  if you did it automatically its probably because you are so used to it, its painful or effort requiring to change the pattern

  i usually take the stories with a pitch of salt... it is afterall an online forum... to me, it's entertainment... tho some ppl try to make the forum HOT with lotsa flaming...
