That's why some documentaries work - who wants to know about turbine engines? Life cycle of a dung beetle? Constructing a skyscraper? It's not useful to me, just point me to the elevator.
But present it in an engaging way, and people can find something interesting in almost everything.

he picked his nose because, maybe he had an overactive mucus membrane in a dry environment.. why was his mucus membrane overactive? could it be due to the dust in the air? the dust in the air was from chariots over a dusty plain?
chariots = war.. battles..
just how much did the civilisation fight wars?
was it a warrior society?
just like Elizabeth's face was ravaged... why? in a society where she as the Virgin Queen reigned, her appearance was vital.. unfortunately the powder they used had a lot of lead in it... the more sores she had, the more powder she applied..
little things, you can find links... and from there, extrapolate to find out the society which they lived in...

I remember being horrified when I found out about the average life expectancy during that period, and WHY people always walk at the side of the streets, and never in the center!!![]()
Was amused by how Shakespeare was pissing off the Puritans. I hate him less now![]()

Yeah, that's what I did. The movie '300' actually inspired me to read up on the Greco-Persian wars and the Spartan way of life.Originally posted by av98m:And for those who caught '300' and do not know the historical background behind that battle, it might be fun to read up on Spartan society and how they quite literally bred themselves into extinction. Interesting look at how eugenics may do more harm than good, other than the moral issue.

To say that the Spartans were fitness maniacs would be a gross understatement. If I remember correctly from the Wikipedia article, they enlist their boys into the army at the age of 7 and would only ORD at the age of 30.
And they would be reservists till they turn 65.![]()
