  back from the electric kettle place..
  
  can't believe one of the big bosses of a facility of ours is so paranoid... the other section asked about the traffic situation there and he went about deflecting everything and being defensive like he's got something to hide
  
  uhh.. there are no complaints.. we are just asking so as to find out if a visiting party can get there without delays.. now by your actions, you have shown you DO have something to hide...
  
  now.. what is it?
  
  sometimes, i wonder why some from the senior management can be such asswipes and worse, be so stupid and yet climb so high?
  
  p.s. he also once insinuated that we were spying on him when we went to the place unannounced to see what the situation was like for a project...

  Ha ha... it helps when you have friends who have kids. I think it's useful to know anyway.
  
  We never grew up in that kind of childproof home environment, somehow we managed to survive.

  It's true that the rough'n'tumble kids of yesteryear appear to be hardier than the pampered, spoilt, cushioned, over-protected kids of today. It's still not too bad in Australia because some parents still raise rough'n'tumble kids, good for them!
  
  I think you and mousehubby's kids will be so lucky - good, mild-mannered parents and they can grow up in a safe suburb with a backyard to explore and a little playhouse to boot! I can help babysit now and then when it's my day off and I have learnt how to drive and own a car!

  the more we shield children from everyday things like insects, cats and dogs, doorknobs and walls, rough floors and trees, the more they will be unable to deal with it in later life...
  
  how many people are now petrified of cats, dogs, caterpillars, beetles because they were shielded from them from young?

  There's the other extreme where negligent parents do not take enough care of their kids, resulting in nasty injuries or worse, death.
  
  I think before a kid turns five, the parents need to keep a close watch on them. The younger they are, the more vigilance is required. And then, once the parents have inculcated a logical sense of safety in the kids, and once the kids have proven to have a level of street-smartness about them, they can gradually earn more and more freedom.
  
  Recently, a toddler was found hung by his mom because he had climbed to the top of the washing machine and tried to get out a window, but slipped and his bike helmut was caught in between the window and the wall and he was hung by the strap of the helmut. His twin brother is still too young to fully comprehend why he's no longer around to play with him.
  
  Kids also need to learn about stuff like snakes, centipedes, etc before being allowed to roam free. Look through books / websites with photos of dangerous / poisonous insects / reptiles / animals with them before letting them explore the bushland.

  safety is one thing.. but hey.. Japan... immunity of Japanese people surpressed because they keep wiping every damned thing down with antiseptics
  
  heck, not just today.. i have a colleague who is getting married soon.. he's never even boiled water in his life...
  
  in some ways, he's lucky he's getting an instant family soon, i can't see him with diapers... he's been pampered all his life..

  Yep, Australia is better in many ways in terms of letting the kids sit on the ground not worrying about them to eat "dirts" etc. It's a much healthier environment in rearing kids here. But the drugs problems might be a worry these days.
  
  You know it's funny to know Australian parents do not know how to mix hot water from the kettle for bathing their babies. A few years ago, when there was a big explosion at the oil field, we had limited gas supply so people with gas hot water heater had to boil water with electric kettle for taking shower and bathing their kids. Guess what, there were many kids got scalded by hot water during that short period and suddenly there were many warnings for parents to check the temperature of the water before putting the kids in. Ha ha...
  
  Thanks for the offer to babysit our kids. I will remember that for sure!!! Mild-mannered parents??? Hee hee.... perhaps you should say parent. Hubby is mild mannered, I am definitely not. I am the wild one!!!
