how fragile is xp and xp office?
i put in a CD with some presentation slides.. didn't realise the CD is scratched to bits... so it gets an error message... refuses to load up...
so i figure, fine.. i'll go see if i have a backup version on the server... i do...
i open up the server version and xp tells me that due to the inability to load and blah blah... office is now corrupted.. and i need to allow it to "analyse and repair" or something like that...
uhhh... a scratched disc can cause corruption in xp office? -

today's what i cooked for dinner:
brown/white rice.
boiled mince pork with onions and 'mang gua' in 'dumpling skins=shui jiao
potatoe with needle mushroom in abalone sauce & dark soy sauce.
stir fried viet cabbage, but it tasted so bitter, i cooked another batch of stir fry bak choy instead. -

anyway, an australian in front of me in the melbourne airport got put through the wringer.. hilarious because they pat him down and all that, took apart his luggage...
i took off my steel toed boots, walked through, cleared immigration pretty quickly, they asked me a few questions at quarantine and customs and let me through without doing anything else...
the lining up was the time-killer.. they were doing a lot of checking on everyone.. in fact, everyone ELSE.. i wasn't delayed by the actual checking.. i was just held up by the lines
Anyway, we were lining up at the departure gate at O'Hare to board the flight to California, and the security folks were "randomly" selecting passengers to be throughly screened. Ahead of me in the line were a middle-eastern-looking man, an elderly Caucasian couple who looked like they could have come straight from a dairy farm in Wisconsin, and another middle-eastern-looking man (in that order). Up trots a security official, looking for the next passenger to screen.... and guess who she picks? That's right, the elderly Caucasian couple.
Political correctness rearing its ugly head, methinks. -
