if he could pump petrol instead when hes a taxi driver, i wonder how focused he would be driving that day

Dont think the result would have been that bad.
Once had a fren's dad pumped petrol into a diesel lorry.
Pump halfway then the dad realised its the wrong fuel.
stopped, but figuring it wont matter, he then drove the lorry to the other side, pump up half with diesel.
the lorry, surprisingly was running really efficient for that week. -
the petrol attendant doesn't know that taxi runs on diesel?

I guess a diesel engine might still work with petrol, but with reduced performance. After all, diesel engines have higher pressures and temperatures which may cause the petrol to ignite too early.
I'm kinda surprised that the lorry's performance was as efficient as you said... I would have thought that the performance would be quite impaired due to the higher chance of 'knocking' from premature ignition of the petrol.
But then again, I know nuts about automobiles. -
