  sigh i was cooking lamb shank in a heatproof dish over the stove and guess what? the dish cracked as soon as i poured the red wine in.
  
  luckily no serious damage done except i need to use more wine. it's now cooking in the oven. will be ready in 3 hours. hopefully it turns out ok *fingers cross*

  ahhh... ceramic right?
  
  heatproof ceramics can handle insane amounts of heat up to almost 5000C or something..
  
  however, it cannot handle sudden cooling
