  Tell me about it. The parking in the city and the airport is extremely expensive.
  
  That's why if we have a choice, we'd rather catch the airport bus to the airport instead of taking the car. Cheaper.

  how abt renting from expats at holland v there.. usually they rent out ground floor rooms and probably don't mind a dog?

  Last year when my friend came to visit me from Brunei, I asked him to catch the airport bus to the city to meet me. There were 2 reasons to that.... one he arrived in the afternoon and I was still working. Two, it was cheaper for him to catch the airport bus from the airport and since he didn't have much to carry with him.
  
  The airport bus only costs about $15- $20 each way. If I were to pick him up from the airport (assuming driving from city only) it would cost me at least $10 to go through the tunnel, $10 for the petrol and at least $20-$30 for the carpark at the airport.
  
  Anyway, I did take him to the airport when he left since he got tonnes of things to bring back. Also, since I am not going to see him for a while, it's good to be able to see him off.

  Ya, very expensive. You can get a day pass for $15 (I think, not sure) and can be used unlimited number of times on that day. With this day pass, you can only get max 8 or 10 a year. If more than that, you'll be required to get an e-tag which will automatically register it when you drive under the gantry.

  Anything below A$8 for food is considered cheap alrdy... Oh my, here anything for S$3 for a simple meal is considered cheap alrdy

  If you guys are planning to just eat and tour around the city, public transport will be quite sufficient. Only rent a car when you decide to go to the bush.

  It's indeed very expensive to eat out. You can spend at least $10 for lunch a day. A sandwich usually cost at least $5. A cup of coffee is $3. Dinner is even more expensive. That's why we usually pack our lunch to work..... can't afford to buy lunch everyday.

  i used that when i was a uni student there
  
  priorities when i get there:
  
  Souvlaki from The Souvlaki Bar
  Viet Noodles from The Mekong
  Gelati from the corner shop in Lygon
  Dips and other stuff.. Baklava at Staglactites
  
  and everything else in between
