I was so totally burnt out working for them that I just couldn't envision myself working in the corporate world again. I was in HR when they acquired Digital and another smaller American PC firm and there was massive in-fighting, incredible politics and then, the horrible retrenchment exercise during that period. I found it unbearable hearing people crying and begging for their jobs back.Originally posted by laurence82:hmm HP merged or acquired Compaq right?
lucky i never got into the coy
my current one, lots of people worked OT, or come early for morning calls to US, or worked at home or have night calls to other places
i think what makes the difference is that the bosses here are quite flexible, nice and supportive
i wonder how these companies get so big
the higher the turnover rate, the costlier it is for the company
big irony![]()
That what I wonder too.Originally posted by Rhonda:Maybe, maybe Bear told his colleagues that I lead a 'sheltered lifestyle'.![]()
And they all believed him, so they didn't even bother to give me a glance!
By the way, how would they know if someone is trying to smuggle in drugs if they didn't even bother to check luggage??![]()
I was traumatised by your horror stories of how hospital management and some nurses work >Originally posted by Rhonda:I was so totally burnt out working for them that I just couldn't envision myself working in the corporate world again. It was my turning point cause after a lot of reflection, I decided to enter nursing and spend my life doing something more meaningful and not profit-oriented.
Well, I gave my mom a few duty-free gifts, so what now? I have to go up to her and demand for $$ back and tell her, "Sorry, mom... the Bear said it's an offence to give and sell away duty-free stuff!"Originally posted by the Bear:trade secrets..
btw, how do you know that we "don't x-ray your bags?"
what happens between the time you walk around, go to the duty-free, and collect your bags?

I remember when hubby (he was still my bf then) came to visit me in Singapore (when I was working in Singapore), he was surprised to get out without getting inspected.
It was quite funny really. I was waiting for him outside and I kept waving at him as he was heading towards the exit (after claiming his baggages). He didn't see me and kept looking around until he walked through the sliding door and was shocked to have me appeared infront of him. He was expecting something like in Melbourne where you had to go through some custom officers to check your baggages.
When I bumped into an ex-colleague just now, we spoke for about half an hour and hearing her complain about the working conditions and rostering reminds me of why I left in the first place!Originally posted by av98m:I was traumatised by your horror stories of how hospital management and some nurses work >

Oi, Bear, don't tell me you've never bought duty-free gifts of love for your loved ones before?
Well, why would they have 'duty free' shops when they aren't really duty free??Originally posted by the Bear:there is no such thing as "duty-free lipsticks and bottles of perfume"
there are only 4 things in singapore which attract duty... they are Motor Vehicles, Motor Spirits (petrol and stuff like that), Alcohol and Tobacco
everything else is NOT DUTIABLE!
however, you do have to pay GST if the stuff you have exceeds a certain amount
I think that's the least of his worries for now, since 'willy' is not getting any useOriginally posted by Rhonda:Easy. Let Missy explain.
It starts with 'I' and explains why polar bears might be endangered species :
I M P _ _ _ _ _ _
And nope, it's not synonymous to 'Significant'.
