I was relieved when I finally got my Visa and everything was ready for departure. When I saw my dear buddies at the airport though, I started to feel a bit of heartache that I'll be leaving them and won't get to see them again for a long while.
THen talking to them perked me up cause a few of them were talking about the things to look forward to there and how I've finally achieved my dream.
Gave a huge sigh, said my last goodbye's, a round of hugs, picked up bags, walked through the departure entrance.
Everything was alright until I looked back from the departure lounge and saw my friends and family there... all standing near the glass doors, a few waving, a few talking... Tears started to well up...
I tried to control my tears but couldn't. I walked very briskly, head down, towards the Ladies. I was excited to leave, but sad to be away from my friends, and I really didn't know what to expect over there and I will be there alone.
I've come to realise this - there's never a perfect place on earth to settle in and sink your roots in. Rather, it's more a matter of which place appeals to you more and you can put up with the shortcomings more. Basically, humans are flexible survivors and I think the cowboys / Red Indians used to say something like wherever I lay my head, shall be my home.
i will cry because i can't go to thailand so often when i'm in the states, that's about it.
i won't feel like i miss home because i've got relatives in the USA and i'll be staying with them actually.
my ultimate aim is still to earn money elsewhere but rest in thailand.
i've had enough of this country... besides~ 6/8 of my relatives are Australian PRs, 1/8 is a yank and my family is the only idiotic Singaporeans.
i'm going to find a way to bring them out of this god forsaken country. -
the best part is that my friends are slowly going overseas too!

Oh no....little gal is in a terrible mood.
She is either throwing herself onto the grass/carpet floor to start her tantrum, or she starts wailing like right now.
Poor papa is kinda having a difficult time now.
Cos Mama is grouchy too cos she is sick and tired.
Auntie here is in her bedroom typing away.
Little gal is probably sick like the rest of us but having a hard time telling the adults why she is uncomfortable. Poor gal.
Little boy isnt sizing up situations correctly and trying to play with Papa when he has his handsfull with a screaming toddler. -

I've only cried twice on board planes - first time was cause of sheer pain!
I had really bad flu but I had to depart for the US. My ears were blocked and my nose was dripping when I boarded the flight. When the plane started its descent, OMIGOSH!!!, my ears ached like hell!! Because I was ill, the pressure changes really affected me and I tried everything, sucking sweets, yawning... all didn't work! Worse, my eardrums felt like they were being crushed!! It was awfully painful! It was so bad I cried in pain and the passenger beside me called for the air stewardess to come over. 
The pain was incredible! I'd say 8.5 - 9 over 10! I thought I was going deaf! I was so frightened!
2nd time was during my 2nd trip to the US, on my way back from NYC. I cried cause I knew the hellish nursing life I was returning to, compared to the relatively cushy nursing life in the States, and I was leaving my then boyfriend behind.
Oh say!!! TMD!!!
I never made the connection but maybe, that plane incident explains why my hearing is a bit bad now?! How come I never made the link until NOW?!

I'm still not really sure I wanna sink my roots in Australia though. I mean, my lifestyle here is definitely much better, but I've always wanted to go to the US. Career-wise and education-wise, I hold the US in high esteem. Can't say much about the safety aspect but I figured out by the time I actually make a move there, if ever, I would have been a bit more seasoned to the 'less sterile and regimented' life and would have less of a culture shock than if I were to head to the US straight from straight-jacket Singapore! -

After I decided I want out, it took me about seven years to get out. Looking back, I'm amazed at how I managed to persevere and be so single-minded about my goal. I guess I must have really wanted it super badly! -
