Something I've been thinking about...
As you guys have already known, one of the reasons why I've been unsuccessful at getting a vacation job is that I can only work till end-July at most. So many managers get turned off when I tell them that.
A friend of mine has advised me to just say something vague like 'Oh... I think I might be able to work till the end of the year.'
It seems rather dishonest to me... what do you guys think?

i know people who pretend to be really earnest and all during interviews
and sometimes 'disappear' during lunch on their first day of work and etc..
ultimately regardless of whether u get that on ur record or not
if its in ur conscience, u wont feel good either.
Find a project based job that is temporary ... such as those at events or etc..
alternatively, if you are getting a vacation job for experience, work for less pay... and tell them u will really appreciaate having the experience in the company bla bla.. -

But my friend insisted that it's not all that dishonest, considering that I will only say that 'I THINK I can work till the end of the year', which allows for some leeway in quitting early.

Parents are real foodies. Stepped off the plane at about 6:10am this morning, and dad immediately asked if we wanted to eat Laksa or the famous Kallang Lor Mee!

I lived at that block there.
Lor Mee is good, fried kway teow is okay, wontan mee is okay, sugar cane juice is good. And the oneh oneh is freshly made.
The best is the Western BBQ stall's pork chop with garlic sauce. you wont regret it. take it with its nearby stall soursop with sourplum juice. Really fantastic! -

And my two-week ICT will pay me a couple hundred dollars at least.
Yeah... you're right when you say that I've got my conscience to answer to. I certainly wouldn't feel good at all every single moment I'm doing a job which I got through dubious means.
And that in itself can't be all that good for my mental health, no? -

fudgester, I won't be able to lie that way. Your friend can wrap it up nicely all he likes but a lie remains a lie. Engaging in word play and then claiming innocence later by saying that you did not guarantee that you can work till that period but that you THINK you can doesn't absolve you from deceit because the intention remains precisely that, deceitful.
Sadly, nowadays, a lot of people put self-interest above such little nuggets of moral value. They'll say things like you have to protect yourself, everyone's doing it, etc but at the end of the day, if your conscience is strong, (and congratulations if it is!
) then you won't feel good about yourself for having done such a thing.
The fact that you're asking already shows us that it's not the path you'd really want to embark on. I'm proud of you, fudgester! -
